Summer Transfer Thread 2018

I don't see the attraction for Ronaldo to go to Juve - they are nailed on for the title regardless, and they probably have a 90% chance of getting to the 1/4 of the CL every year at the very least (without him)

Given all of the dozens of records he holds, there's probably not many big things left for him to achieve at Madrid other than to just keep pushing the bar that bit further each year.

At somewhere like Juve he has the possibility of becoming only the second player ever to win the champions league with 3 different clubs.

Hard to see Juve getting value for money at this stage of his career though. But who'd have thought that Real would get 9 (?) seasons out of him and still sell him for a profit!

It makes sense from Madrid's perspective I guess to get £100 million for a 33 year old.

He'll be great in the immediate term for Juve but after 2 years will look like a massive waste of money.

Maybe so but 100 million to win the champions league is pocket change if it works. We paid 24 million for a 29 year old 6 years ago and won the league because of it.

Wonder if buffon will regret leaving juve the other month having not won champs league with them

I fancy juve to win one now with ronaldo

Nah, I don't think they have quite the squad to win it and they are losing Buffon which won't help. They are a cracking team but I think they will fall a little short. RM have got to be a good shout for it again if they do some good business and bring in the likes of Hazard or Mbappe.

If it wasnt for ronaldo juve could have won it last year or this season

It sounds as if Shaqiri to Liverpool is likely to happen soon. Not overly excited but not against the move either - for £12/13m you can't lose.

Based on what? Thats like the people who pushed Rooneys stats as evidence that he was the best player at United even when he was gash and bringing the whole team down. You can't take a player out of a team and miraculously remove all their goals. Who says RM wouldn't have played better and scored more with another player? Perhaps that would allow Bale a free role and the rest of the team functions better without him. Ronaldo is a hell of a player but I don't think RM will miss him that much if they spend well this summer. Time will tell. He should rip it up in the Italian League but the CL is the big question. RM were set up for him and had been for years. Will Juve do the same?

sell him next year for a nice profit :)
Exactly. He'll provide an upgrade on the current back-up options we have for our front 3 and for an amount that means we can still afford to bring in a top class attacker too. If he does well and is happy as being 3rd or 4th choice then great, if not then we shouldn't have any problem shifting him on in 12 months time to West Ham for £25m.

Real Madrid must be laughing about the Ronaldo deal. They've freed up a massive amount of wages, made a nice little profit, got nine great seasons out of him (probably his best) and have just added another £100 million in transfer funds to whatever they already had. I think Juve are bonkers to spend that sort of money on a player of his age. I know he's one of the best players of this generation, but as far as I'm concerned he's not good value at the price they've paid. I'd have been livid if United had paid that sort of money for him.

Also, the Mbappe fee actually looks pretty good value in comparison (assuming PSG complete the deal), they've got a 19-year-old who has lit up the World Cup and barring injuries should probably develop into one of the best players in the world.
