Summer Transfer Thread 2018

Mourinho is starting to sew the seeds of his exit by writing us off before we've got going this season, already got excuses streaming out of every orifice. Then he'll go down the 'told you so' route, and disappear should we have a bad run of form.

I'm really hoping Sanchez turns up for this season and the 1-2 more we'll get out of him. Our huuuuuge signing will next come when we have a new manager.

Baffling as to his difference in effectiveness in both teams.

don't disagree at all - he is working hard just (generally) in the wrong area of the pitch for Utd

height, pace, power and plays like a central midfielder.

That's a brilliant description of HM's performances at the WC - so thank you for that

Obviously the WC is completely different style of play to the EPL, but he has proven he can do it, and on a consistant basis (albeit over a short run) , now just has to prove it with better players surrounding him

Don't buy these Vidal rumours at all, Sanchez and him aren't good friends at all from what was published earlier this summer about Chile's failed WC qualification , and while that shouldn't matter - cant imagine JM going for a "big" signing with known animosity with a big player already on the books. (also think its a year or 2-3 late from being a decent signing, with knee injuries etc etc and moving to a more dynamic league) , imo doesn't make sense

That's a brilliant description of him if you have incredibly low standards Frank. My description of Maguire would be - big, not the most mobile but no slouch either and reasonable on the ball. Maguire's a Ford Mondeo, VVD's a Rolls Royce.

Again, I don't think he's a bad player and could do a job at a top 4 side as an option within a squad but he's not somebody I'd be desperately looking to sign and spend huge money on. Fwiw, I don't believe Utd will pay mega money for him either - they're probably using his name to force Spurs' hand over Alderweireld. Now he is a top class CB but at 29 and coming off the back of an injury hit season, he's not going to fetch VVD type money either.

Will be very interesting to see how West Ham do this season. Owners have seriously backed Pellegrini and there’s some top quality been bought in. Fabianskis a great signing. Highly capable keeper imo and could easily play in goal for a top four side.

They've got a nasty run of games to start the season. Within the first nine weeks they play Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Spurs, along with Everton away. I reckon they'll have a better season under Pellegrini, but it's going to be hard for him to begin with.

I really hope for Chelsea fans sakes that Rob Green isn’t Tibo’s replacement. He’s having a medical today.

Just joking. He’s coming, but I highly doubt he’ll get a single game if I’m honest. Last resort emergency cover.

The only upshot, once that's done and dusted they have a better chance of getting a decent run of form without big games in between a few "more winnable" games

I know there's talk of Abramovic pulling the plug at Chelsea but replacing Courtois with Rob Green is a bit much. We might be able to get Chelsea to buy Markovic off us to replace Hazard though.

You're joking but it looks like Courtois' replacement is 9mil Pepe Reina who was free a month ago.

What a mess...

Lol

What do you want him to do? If he says anything positive he’d get slated for over egging it.

Ramsay still stalling on his new contract. Got a feeling he could be going this summer. Arsenal will surely have learnt from their previous mistakes by now. Not overly bothered. He’s good, but I think he could easily be upgraded rather that just replaced.

Manchester United have approached Leicester City over the sale of their England centre-back Harry Maguire, Sky Sports News understands.

Anything would be better than Jones and Smalling. I'm tired of them both. They are 26 and 28 respectively, with no sign of them ever being good enough/injury free.

Would be a great signing...

United will have to pay a lot for him I think though (as ever).

Surely Leicester won't be stupid enough to scare Utd away if they come in with anything close to £65m? He's not worth it and they're never getting offered anything like that ever again. Mouinho won't wait for him and come back with an offer in January or next summer, he'll move on to whoever's next on the list - if they are in for Maguire it's almost certainly because they couldn't get their first choice.

Why is it stupid for Leicester to keep a hold of their best players?

The price tag is only relevant if they want to sell him, which they don't want to, and don't have to either.

Maguires stock is only going to rise if he keeps on doing the business.
