Summer Transfer Thread 2018

We need someone now, not in a year or two - Lindelof may well come good, also at some point Utd will go with three at the back imo but we need better full backs / wing backs for that to work ( and better /more experienced CB's)

Leicester are more than welcome to take one (or two) of Rojo, Jones and Smalling off our hands - we might even give them a decent deal with Maguire coming the other way :)
To be fair at that level, without so much pressure on every game any of the above three would actually be a decent signing for Leicester (albeit the expected wages means a deal would never happen anyway)

You take Maguire and give us Shaw and Martial :D

I thought you rated Maguire Frank?
Just because JM hates Shaw doesn't mean the latter cant become a very good full back (if not better) , he is still in his early 20's after all

The skill is definitely there - but the belief @ Utd is missing, which can be resolved with a transfer elsewhere (even if its on a free next summer - would be surprised if Utd got anything at all in Jan if he is even up for sale)

I'm not doubting he could, although I'm not sure that Mourinho just hates him. He's simply not a Mourinho type fullback - Mourinho want's his fullbacks to be defenders first and footballers second and Shaw's not very good defensively.

Regardless of whether he can develop into a decent player or not, that doesn't mean he's worth a fraction of the £60m odd being touted about for Maguire which you were defending. In the 4 seasons he's been at Utd he's played just 3,000 PL minutes (less than 34 games) and in the two seasons since his injury less than 1,500 minutes (16.5 matches or just over 8 per season). In what world is an out of shape, out of favour fullback, with 1 year left on a highly lucrative contract (far more than what Leicester could or would pay him) worth anything like what Maguire is being touted about for? Even if you put a more modest, realistic valuation on Maguire of £40m, Shaw's still not worth even close to that. Nobody that would want Shaw, could or would pay even half that imo.

He once was considered one of the biggest prospects in Spain - just shows you how difficult it is to make the jump from youth teams to top PL sides. A few £m for another kid that won't cut it is yet more good business by us in the transfer market.

Could have said the same about Suso - not sure that letting him go looks like great business any more

He left at the end of his contract. The club didn't want to let him go but he wanted to leave because he was a million miles from getting a regular spot in the side. From a business point of view it would have been great to tie him down to a new deal, loan him out a couple of times and sell him for £10m but unfortunately he wasn't and still isn't good enough for us.

Why is Maguire worthmore than double over what Leicester payed this time last year (£17m)? He isn't but moving between EPL teams is always expensive....and being British also adds to that.
even with only 12 months to go Shaw is worth £25m + easy - even if most of it is because of the two similar facts

He's worth double because transfer fees have taken another climb following the Neymar deal and because he's had another season performing at a higher level than before. You have to remember that he was British 12 months ago too Frank ;)

I'm glad you've come down from being worth similar to Maguire (who you defended the £60m odd valuation) to just £25m+ but I'd still dispute that. If anybody offered £25m for Shaw he'd be gone by now but he's still a Utd player. Why? It's clearly not because the manager wants him. He's still a Utd player because nobody is offering any sort of fee that Utd can justifiably sell him for. It's easy to say he's worth x but then ask yourself, who is paying that. Who is paying £25m on Luke Shaw? How many clubs have, can or will spend that sort of money on a fullback? Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Spurs & a few big European clubs. Which of those would want him? At best just Spurs. I'd be stunned if Levy would offer even half that for him, knowing he can get him for nothing next summer.
