Summer Transfer Thread 2018

Why is it stupid for Leicester to keep a hold of their best players?

The price tag is only relevant if they want to sell him, which they don't want to, and don't have to either.

Maguires stock is only going to rise if he keeps on doing the business.

If Leicester have a bottomless pit of money to improve their squad without the sale of Maguire then fair enough but I'm guessing they don't. For anything like £60m you'd have to think Leicester can reinvest that money and be better off without Maguire.

As for his stock only going to rise, I find that hugely unlikely. His stock is at it's absolute highest following a bit of hype around the WC. Prior to the WC there was next to no links to top sides, let alone at this sort of fee and interest in him (at anything like this level) isn't going to be there again. If Utd don't sign him now then Mourinho will just move on to the next target on his list (as I said, they're here now because they can't agree a deal fof Alderweireld) - would Liverpool, City or any other side that could spend this amount be interested in him for similar money? I'd be stunned, if only for the fact that he doesn't suit the style of play.

I saw his post but I assumed he was joking. I know the Mancs have got to prepare themselves for spending that much money on a fairly average player but that can't be a serious opinion.

Leicester aren't going to be better off with Maguire gone. It's alright selling a player, but you need to replace them.

But couple of goals from Maguire on the 10th August for Leicester, will soon change people's mind about his stock not going up.

Leicester might not have a endless stream of money, but they won't be bullied into selling player's because mighty man utd want a them!

Personally, I think Man utd should be concentrating their energy on Lindelöf, who cost how much?

Have they replaced their best player; Mahrez?

Of course you would need to replace him but my point was, surely you could replace him for less than £65m. You'd be replacing Harry Maguire, not Messi. With that sort of money you could bring in 2 or 3 players that should improve the team overall.

If any manager, director of football or scout is judging Maguire on how many goals he scores then he needs sacking. Will Maguire improve? Probably but I don't see anything in him to think he could become one of the best CB's around which at this sort of money is surely what you're paying for. At these sorts of figures I just don't see a market for Maguire at any point in the future - Real, Barca, Bayern, PSG or Juve aren't going for him. Liverpool and City have paid these figures for CB's but not only, imo at least, are they superior players to Maguire they're also completely different styles of CB - Maguire isn't good enough or suited enough to our style for Liverpool to pay that much on him, nor City. That leaves Utd and I don't believe for a moment that Utd began this transfer window targetting Maguire - by all accounts it was Alderweireld they wanted and they've moved to Maguire because they couldn't do a deal. Utd/Mourinho seemingly have no clear strategy with their transfers and as some journo's have written, they're just reacting to the market, moving from player to player - if they don't get Maguire they'll move to somebody else and if they don't sign anybody, by next summer they'll start the whole process over again.

I don't think Leicester should just roll over and let Utd take their players but I honestly believe (and have said the same re Liverpool in the past) that unless you have a bottomless pit of cash then if somebody offers over and above the amount you feel you can replace a player and be better off then you should sell and imo Leicester should be able to do that with anything like £60m.

As for Lindelof, he looks utter garbage. He was €35m rising to €45m.

If only football was like that :)

I think he will move. Not long left in the window and United have money to burn.

I think it will be largely down to the player and agent now.

We'll see I guess.

We need someone now, not in a year or two - Lindelof may well come good, also at some point Utd will go with three at the back imo but we need better full backs / wing backs for that to work ( and better /more experienced CB's)

Leicester are more than welcome to take one (or two) of Rojo, Jones and Smalling off our hands - we might even give them a decent deal with Maguire coming the other way :)
To be fair at that level, without so much pressure on every game any of the above three would actually be a decent signing for Leicester (albeit the expected wages means a deal would never happen anyway)
