Summer Transfer Thread 24/25

It doesn’t make sense to me, we have Kelleher and it doesn’t look like he is going any where least from what I last read.

Our youth options seem high regarded too.
Kelleher has been making noises about not being a back up and wanting to be a no1for the past few seasons? Hell think there's been a couple of stories about it just this week...

Let him go on loan somewhere if we're so convinced Alisson won't sign a new deal. Kelleher has already shown he's good enough to be our first choice, let him be that. Mamardashvili is good, but we have a backup who is just as good IMO.

Admittedly I have no idea how good this Valencia keeper is but the club need to be looking for the best, long term replacement for Alisson, not simply saying Kelleher done ok last season lets give him a try. Kelleher is a decent keeper who will have a very good career for himself but he's not and never will be as good as Alisson is. If there is anything in these reports then it's clear the club feel this guy has the potential to replace Ali or at the very least is better placed than Kelleher.

Surely even you can admit that's Liverpool's signings have been better than United's over the last decade?

Up until around 2019 sure. Please tell me in the last 5 years a Liverpool signing that has been bought that is something the other teams would be clambering for?

Being better than United is hardly a metric to aspire to. They have been majorly off Arsenal and Man City's signings over the past 5 years.

Looking like old Marmalade from valencia has legs, tbh when I saw the rumour a few weeks back I didn't think much of it largely due to the loaning him out straight away (wonder if the bournemouth element is true). Makes sense though, get a guy in who will take Ali's spot in a few seasons.
Prem strikers will have him on toast

Jota?

Which United signings would any team be clambering for? We can't give them away!

Virtually all the signings have been absolutely solid though, appropriate to the team's requirements and generally good value.

Liverpool's approach to only actually buy what they need and not buy pointless Plan B players or spank £LOL on a name at the end of the window for the sake of it I think has worked fantastically, they've stayed competitive and kept their spending in check, without seeing any major big money flops.

It’ll be interesting to see how much of that is down to the Klopp effect, in terms of getting elevated levels of performance from solid rather than exceptional players. Will the same happen with Slot or will your signings from here on in maybe not seem as canny or work quite as well because of the hole Klopp has left.

Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho, Mainoo, Martinez (Was in team of the tournament Copa America).

Solid isn't good enough for Liverpool imo. That is something a Spurs would aspire too. You also mention pointless plan B but that couldn't be further from the truth. Some of United's best ever signings have been plan B signings. You cannot be pragmatic all the time. Sometimes risks need to be taken. You can have a plan B without spending a huge amount of money.

Solid isn't good enough for Liverpool imo.

It's been good enough for maintaining a pretty consistent position around the sharp end of the league table.

It absolutely works as a transfer strategy and criticising it because they're not making what are perceived to be 'marquee' signings or are refusing to buy players just for the sake of making signings is massively blinkered really.

This is more a reflection that so many of their Plan A signings turn into expensive flops that the Plan Bs look good in comparison :p

When the Plan A signings work (significantly) more often than not, the idea of a Plan B is far less valuable.

I'm no Liverpool fan but one thing you can't help but respect about the club is how well it's being run at the moment, with their transfer strategy being something of a stand out amongst a collection of teams around them who just throw money at anything and everything hoping something sticks.

I am sorry but that is small club mentality. Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs on the planet and shouldn't be "maintaining" a consistent position at the sharp end of the league. They should be strengthening every season to dominate at the top.

Man Utd can splash the cash. I really do not see how Liverpool are different.
