Summer Transfer Thread 24/25

Is football an easy way to launder/do dodgy stuff with money? Is that why everyone wants to own a club these days?

Guess that massive failure of a loan move didnt put either side off
Indeed. 6 months where he scored 4 goals and got sent off in his first match, if I remember correctly. He’s been lacklustre everywhere since his big money move.
Only Chelsea would give him a six year contract with the option for an extra year. Absolutely bonkers.

More reports this morning claiming improved bid for the Valencia keeper.

No excitement if true at all do not see the need as of yet. Keepers can play into higher years compared to an outfield player so I think we have quite a good few seasons in Alison yet

Plus other areas need the cover more imo

Is there a guarantee that Ali would want to sign an extension? We could be in a position that we are needing a new keeper in 2 seasons time and you can bet folks would be whinging that we have no keeper if that was the case - perfect opportunity to sign a very highly rated player and box off a position.

I will quote myself the last time Felix got signed...should I put a bet on this time? lol

From a pure stats perspective, Weghorst (171/407) has a better goal-per-game percentage compared to Felix (61/204). Felix is a better player to watch and the wiki stats doesn't show assists clips but then Felix has had more yellow cards in his career than assists so.....there is that! I'd put money on him getting sent of at least once in the next 6 months. :D

Will find out I guess how they both turn out

Well only the club know if he would sign again. I’d like to think he would.

Not like a bigger club is gonna come in for him as there all sorted keeper wise as well so if he left i don’t see it being an upgrade

FSG have issues with contracts being given to players in their 30's though

They do but I’d like to think they would realise goal keepers age isn’t as paramount as outfield players but who knows.
They're not mental Mark. If Alisson is still performing and justifies giving a new deal then he'll be given one, just as Salah was.

If the club believe that this Valencia keeper is a bit of a bargain, as has been reported, then it's a no brainer. The reports coming out of Spain suggest he's happy to be loaned out for 2 years - a lot can happen in 2 years. Alisson's form or fitness could be an issue, he might decide he wants to move to Spain or Saudi. Who knows. In the even that in 1-2 years time we need a new keeper, the club obviously believe this guy is best placed to replace Alisson. And if we don't need to replace Alisson, we can always move this other guy on.

It has no impact on our ability to make any other signings so I see no reason why they shouldn't do this deal if they believe this guy has the potential to replace Alisson if and when he needs replacing?

The new manager either has more say in signings or they want to use those profits from previous seasons' sales before they lose it (within 3 years has passed).
Brightons deputy chairman was on talksport with jim white earlier and it is basically now spending because they are in a position to do so after previous seasons sales and profits
