**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Real Madrid do make me laugh.

First of all they say Benitez is asking for ridiculous money for Alonso.

Then they say there are no other players like Alonso, so it is difficult to find someone else.

Then they come out again and say Benitez is asking for ridiculous money.

Morons.

He's not a very good defender though. £15-16m is beyond crazy for him.

Yep, great bit of business for Arsenal there. He's certainly replaceable for less money than that, particularly given Wenger's ability to find gems for absolutely nothing!

Has Yaya Toure committed himself to Barca yet? What with Arsenal having some money now it wouldn't be too much of a surprise to see them putting a bid in.

He's no where near the best in his position, he's very good. I understood that he wanted to leave as well.

Even if he's not the best in his position (which I would debate, as long as we're excluding Xavi from this!), he is certainly the best in his position who is possibly available, meaning that Benitez has every right to ask for silly money. If there is a high demand for a passing midfielder, and only Alonso available, the Rafa can ask for whatever he wants.

Furthermore, the money that Benitez is asking for reflects Xabi's value to Liverpool. In my opinion, he is only less important to us that Torres and Gerrard. As I've already mentioned, he is the only good quality player who plays in his role who is available, meaning that, were Rafa to sell, he would have to totally re-shape his team. Therefore, even if Alonso's value should only be £20mil based on his ability, it is correct for Rafa to ask for £30mil due to the impact that losing him would have on Liverpool.

I don't think he's the out and out best in his position, which is a central midfielder, a bit like Carrick. ( we are including Xavi, why wouldn't we be  )

I've not said that Rafa shouldn't ask for as much as he should. I however, still think that Alonso isn't worth the amount of money.

It's a lot of money, seeing as Real have paid out a fortune this summer on only a few players Rafa has and should be asking for top dolla.
