**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has launched a £10million raid for Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole.

Redknapp is a big admirer of England star Cole (above) after giving him his debut at West Ham and would love to take him to White Hart Lane.

The Spurs boss has already made some discreet enquiries as to whether Chelsea will be prepared to sell the 27-year-old.

But Carlo Ancelotti does not want to lose Cole and the midfield star will be offered a new contract as he only has less than 12 months on his current deal.

And even if they did sell, Blues would want to see a lot more money.

But Redknapp believes he may be able to lure Cole with the guarantee of regular football in a World Cup year where he faces a fight for his place.

Ancelotti is also chasing AC Milan’s Andrea Pirlo which has alerted Redknapp to Cole.

Oli Kay from the Times has apparently reported that the Alonso deal will be done by the end of tomorrow for around £28m.

:(

Although I'd love him to stay, I do honestly believe that with anything around £30m from him we could end up improving the side as a whole.

On the basis of Benitez being given no money whatsoever from the Yanks, we should still have around £8m from our dealings since January + the money from Alonso and then another possible ~£8m from Dossena, Voronin and a few youngsters.

£40-45m to go on a versatile defender to cover cb and rb (somebody like Beye), a CM and another forward/winger. Ideally we'd like to sign a striker as well but if we can get another forward/winger then we can always use Kuyt or Babel up front if Torres got injured.

edit: Also if we end up haggling over a couple of £m with Real, it might be an idea to try and take somebody like Robben or even Sneijder on loan for a season. Then we might be able to afford a striker as well.

Hands up, I've been feeling **** all week. It's not often I make mistakes but when I do I can admit it.

Not sure why I said that as Woodgate has avoided injury for a while now. I don't think he's cleared any question marks though, after the amount of time he had out of the game I don't see his career running the full course.

You've always had a 'thing' about Dawson, never have found out why....?

It's just that I really dislike someone that bad making it in football. I've played against plenty that are better than he is!

Just feels like every day we have The Sun or News Of The World we're going to be signing Ribery, Aguero, Villa AND Silva or something equally ridiculous.

Didn't you see the daily mail article? Chelsea are now getting ribery and aguero. Our rumour jealousy has ended, yours has begun. :p

seems wierd that the Bent transfer will finally go through and it looks like most of the press were way off with their expectations of the cost..yes it will be rising to a lot but the initial payment is less than I was expecting, must be some big extras tied in with goals/appearances/caps..which if triggered means he must be doing ok so nobody will really mind

be interesting to see what this reported interest in Bentley/Dawson leads to..by all accounts Niall Quinn has a good relationship with Levy..after all business is business and Quinn would hold no animosity over deals, its just not his nature
