**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Dikgacoi looked decent anytime I've seen him play for SA. Could be a good signing for Fulham.

Yeah, we need someone to replace or backup Etuhu, and from what i see and read Dikgacoi is a 'destroyer' type player, and a good passer...hopefully anyway. Riise looks like he's Murphy's future replacement considering he came on for him against Vetra, would have liked O'Hara or Huddlestone or someone though. Still need a good striker!

If we are after him (which it seems we are) and if we're going to be paying ~£15m on him then you've got to think that any deal will only go ahead if the club is 100% happy with his fitness and that his previous problems are not long standing, and he's just been unlucky.
He's started less than 50 matches in 4 years (he'll be expected to play that in a season with us) so I really can't see him lasting in a much tougher league. Mental transfer if you ask me.

Wiki on Aquilani

Alberto Aquilani (7 July 1984) is an Italian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League side Liverpool[1] and the Italy national football team. Aquilani signed for Liverpool from Roma on 3rd August 2009 for a reported £15.3m.

He is reported to be twice the player that Roy of the Rovers is and almost as epic as Freddy Adu on Champ 03/04

:D

I've seen him play a few times and he seemed quite good every time. Very like Alonso in many ways. Quiet, but does his job very well.

He'll play much further forward than Alonso does, will score and create more but wouldn't 'control' the game like Alonso can.

Like I said, if the club are willing to pay ~£15m on a player with his injury record they've got to be satisfied that he's simply been unlucky over the last couple of years and that there are no long standing problems.

IINM, other than the odd niggle that every player gets, his problems have come from 2 major injuries.

And isn't it 57 league games in 4 years?

Hard to say having only seen him under 10 times. But from what I have seen, I'd say close and would depend on how he settles in the Prem.

Well if he is close then that seems like a fair deal. Although I am somewhat worried by all this injury prone talk. Frankly would have preferred Van Der Vaart or Sneijder (although I know they arent really the same role as Alonso). Hopefully he can steer clear of injury but its a worry, especially as the aggression and toughness you experience week in and out in the EPL is much higher than the italian leagues.

I'd say Aquilani is more suited to Liverpool and replacing Alonso than VDV or Sneijder in how he plays.

I watch quite a lot of Liverpool. They were a team I followed a lot a while back. Not supported, just followed due to large number of friends supporting them.

Someone on RAWK made a good point about medicals, do players ever fail them? Saha passed his at Everton and Downing passed his on crutches at Villa!

According to ESPN it's 51 league starts in 5 years.

Some of the edits people are making are hilarious.

Aquilani - cant say I've ever watched him play. I've seen highlights but... well that doesn't really show anything does it.

However it does look like we'll be seeing a lot more of Lucas next year if he is very injury prone...

If we get another striker (which we absolute need) then yes. What might happen then is Gerrard will sit back a bit and play the Alonso role while Torres and Villa do the business.
