I still strongly believe that our most important player is snodgras, really don't think beckford would have had a lot of his goals last season if it wasn't for the constant persistence and sheer will to win of snodgrass on the wing constantly getting the ball to him and creating the chances

Because signing a striker to play alongside Torres would be hell of a lot easier than signing a top class midfielder

No but if Villa was signed then it would be a 4-4-2 Diamond. Can you imagine Villa/Torres with Gerrard in behind! Lethal!!!

Im no Liverpool fan but i want either Liverpool or Arsenal to win the league! Would love it if Villa signed for Liverpool. Dont know how much truth there is in the whole Villa doesnt wanna leave spain. It could be a ploy! Torres and Villa are very very good friends are they not?
 
I think as above has said if we dont get a replacement of equal skill of Alonso then Gerrard will more than likely end up pushed back their so it will leave Torres more isolated as its not like a Torres/Ngog(or Babel) partnership is going to be as good as Gerrard/Torres are together

Also i cant see a Mash/Lucas doing well together for us if im honest =/ Lucas seems to stick his feet out too much

As people have said earlier in the thread, Torres and Villa haven't really hit it off in the Spanish team. Also playing Villa and Torres upfront and still playing Gerrard far enough forward to get the best out of him would leave us incredibly vulnerable in midfield.

Half of the reason as to why Gerrard plays further forward these days is because Benitez doesn't like him playing CM as part of a 4-4-2; he feels Gerrard vacates the position too often and can leave us vulnerable.

As for the stuff about Villa saying he doesn't want to leave Valencia or Spain; he's just one of many players that are constantly talking in the press about how they want to join club x, then the next day they're happy and so on. And I am sure he is friends with Torres but if anybody was to persuade him it would be Reina, they're very good friends (go on holiday together etc).
