**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Doesn't mean a thing.

Why would he travel if there was no chance of him playing?

He wouldn't, but that's my point his punishment was to miss two games, he missed one against Villa and the he missed another just because Newcastle played a game even though he'd signed for Spurs. Mental.

With that logic Barton shouldn't have missed any games after the Dabo incident because that was when the played for Man City.

FA Space Corp Directive said:
"The suspension will cover all approved First Team matches until such time as his Club's First Team has completed the number of matches appropriate to the punishment in approved Competitions during the period covered by its opening league match and ending with the final match in which the Club is playing in an approved domestic Competition."

Doesn't have to travel
Doesn't have to have been going to play if eligible
Doesn't have to be anything but a Newcastle United player on paper

Fact is, he has served his suspension and then we signed him.

This is the Japanese guy, Keisuke Honda, who Liverpool have been linked with. Can't tell that much from the video, but he's apparently a left sided attacking midfielder. Looks like he has a great free kick on him (look at the one at 4:15 in the video, absolutely stunning) but you can't tell a lot else!

Has-been England international? Didn't realise he'd even been an England international. :p

Think he had a match, although calling him a has-been is a bit much. He's still got a lot of ability, just needs to get himself right, both attitude-wise and form-wise. In terms of raw potential he's better than Walcott and Lennon.

He hadn't signed for Spurs. Not officially. He was still registered as a Newcastle player.

He had signed for Spurs though. He just hadn't completed his registration to play for you, he was a Spurs player though.

edit: and what the your official site is saying is that because he started his suspension as a Newcastle player, he can only be suspended as a Newcastle player, which seems strange considering Joey Barton got banned for an incident as a City player but got suspended while at Newcastle.

You announced the signing and he was unveiled as a Spurs player before Newcastle played. You don't have to be regisitered to play to be signed by a club, just like Torres wasn't registered to play in time for our first 2 pre-season friendlies the year he signed even though we signed him several weeks prior to those games.

No need to act like an idiot about it too.

At the end of the day, until the registration is with the FA and approved, he is still a Newcastle player.

And the site said we reached an agreement, not that all was done.

We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of Sebastien Bassong to the Club, following the player successfully completing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms.

The defender moved to St James' Park in July 2008 from Metz where he made 79 appearances in three seasons.

The 23-year-old played 34 times for Newcastle last season in his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Although I will admit, I wrongly said it was done.

I said I wouldn't post again, but Baz, if he wasn't registered as a Spurs player, he wasn't a Spurs player.

Very simple.

Good signing for Spurs imo :) not that it counts for much.

bye.

No. Until the registration is with the FA, he can't play for Spurs. He can belong to Spurs though.

Anyway, if you bothered to read the statement on your club site; the reason why he is not suspended is not because he wasn't registered as a Spurs player in time but because he started his suspension as a Newcastle player and therefore can only serve that ban as a Newcastle player which is a perculiar rule to say the least.

Going by that, a player can receive a 2 year ban for failing a drugs test, begin his ban at club x, be transfered to another club and is then free to play.

I wish you wouldn't post again, especially when you're completely wrong. As I said above, we had a similar issue with Torres where his registration to play for us wasn't completed in time to play in our opening 2 pre-season friendlies, he was however completely signed and officially a Liverpool player.

It's no different from when a club signs a player and then applies for a work-permit; he belongs to the club but can't play for them until he receives a work-permit and can then be registered to play.

edit: @Skippi:
Sebastien Bassong can hardly keep the smile off his face after completing his move to The Lane from Newcastle United this week.

Check the date of the article, it was before Newcastle played :)

Young BaZ is right on this one. A club can own a player but it is the FA who grants them there eligibility to play through their registration. They are two entirely separate things albeit linked

That isn't what it says at all. It's simply a clarifying sentence that the final game of the suspension was served whilst still a Newcastle player.

As proven above, he signed for you before Newcastle played therefore as I initially said; he only served 1 game of a 2 game ban and stupid technicalities have overcome common sense within the FA, again!

Has no relevence to his suspension though. He was still registered as a Newcastle player.
