Tottenham are preparing a £20m deal for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, 22, and Spurs could offer 29-year-old forward Emmanuel Adebayor as part of any move.

So they offer £20m for him, then reduce their offer by giving them Ade :p

Benteke is an interesting one, one successful season and he is £20m, I would take a gamble on him but the second season is usually a good judge of his abilibty. He will have more attention on him this season.

I like him and heard hes a huge Arsenal fan. One of the guys who works for me is an Aston Villa fan and keeps saying that Arsenal are going to buy him lol. I keep telling him that there is no chance we will sign him although i wouldnt mind him as a backup.

Poor Ade, just cant seem to settle down at one club:p...had one good season for us then sold him to City for bags of money:p...did ok at City then they shipped him off to Real then comes back and goes to Spurs where he has been up and down like a yo yo:p

grrrrrr - Barca President offered Thiago a new deal on Friday (via his father / agent)

Hoping this makes no difference as the manager still can not gaurentee playing time - but who knows

To be fair, it's not like Benteke wasn't a good player before, Aston Villa just got a bargain.

Dunno where you read that because I've been following the thread over on redcafe closely and anything even remotely considered 'news' has been posted there and I haven't seen one mention of Barca giving him a new deal

All I have read in relation to Barca's stance is understandably they're loathed to loose the player but Vilanova has refused him any assurances over increased playing time next season

Ultimately signing Thiago does sound far too good to be true so I'll be amazed if we pull it off

Not sure you've really been following it then, considering nearly all day yesterday or Friday, can't remember which, all they discussed was that it was 'off' and he'd been offered a new deal by Barca.

Was mostly twitter/random websites/Internet rumours, just as the rest of most transfer talk has been, though.

I don't really listen to it when they mention they are fans, wasn't Zaha an Arsenal fan too, Mich Richards at City was a Arsenal fan, never works out lol

The problem with Ade is he is lazy, when he goes to a new club he makes the effort, then he just goes into lazy mode. People should only offer him a one year deal ;)

Higuain has gone quiet again... wrap up the deal guys... every day it goes quiet there is that chance of it all falling through

They had a panic attack yesterday due to a randomer on twitter saying it was looking more unlikely by the minute the same randomer who then contradicted that by saying he was close to signing (with us) and that Barca wouldn't be as keen to keep him had he not performed the way he did with the Under 21's (like they didn't know what the player was capable of before then). Nothing to do with a new contract being offered.

If he wants to leave then now is the time thanks to his release clause being significantly lower at the moment. Not sure if it applies until the end of the transfer window or not though.

Bayern had a pretty good year last year too. Barcelona are solid, but I certainly wouldn't say they're the best. The simple fact that Bayern blew Barcelona away, home and away and actually completely out played them over both legs (and the fact they were in the final last year too) would make them a better team than Barcelona.

Thiago is a really good player and like his style a lot. Only thing that I dislike is that he is goes to ground too easily.
Would he go straight into the 1st XI and can utd offer him the playing time he wants?
