Most media reported the contract details the wrong way round, 90 million falling to 18 million.

His release clause has always been 18 million euros however, it will still be 18 million euros in july.

If he plays the required amount of minutes and becomes a first team regular, then it increases to the reported amount, not falling because of x and y.

I personally dont believe that any player in their right mind would leave Barcelona to join Manchester United at this point in time, let alone one of spains hottest midfield prospects.

How do you know this?

(Im not suggesting you are wrong, but its still interesting to know)

It depends on how one looks at the bolded text as to how the release clause works. IE IF he were to have played x amounts of minutes in 12/13 (and therefore is considered 1st team regular) then his release clause would be however many 10's of millions - because he didn't, it has reduced.

Because of the upcoming world cup - its a big incentive to leave rather than sit behind Neymar, Xavi, Fabregas etc etc and with Bayern being so heavily stocked in that area, Isco being a consideration where ever he moves to.....(I am on purpose being devil's advocate - but its not unfathomable either)

his father met the barca president on friday to discuss a improved contract with more % playing time with xavi taking more rest supposedly

So you know as little as everyone else then (:

If the Coach isn't going to give him gaurentees, then Im not sure what the President can offer (given that there is little time for improvement before the WC next summer) - There are still 4 players at the least infront of him in the Barca squad, how many for definite in the Utd squad - 1?

Wish Real and Arsenal would get a move on regarding the Higuain transfer, i hope it doesnt end up being a long drawn out affair. I know Real want to appoint a new manager, think it will most probably be Ancelotti. All ive heard so far is Arsenal have gone there to sort it out and Real have sanctioned the deal...so FFS come on Arsenal and Real...get this transfer wrapped up so we can then go and sign some other players.

Higuain would be stupid to rush any transfer through at this point, basic logic suggests he should wait and see who Real appoint as their next manager and talk his future through with them. Leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal would be the type of thing you'd do if you've been guaranteed a bit part role and given his direct rival in the Madrid side is only Benzema Higuain like I said would be stupid to not just wait and see for the time being

The Aspas deal is now officially official. There had been some issue his end (something about agents) holding up the deal but that's now sorted.

Latest news on Thiago.

Thiago is a really good player and like his style a lot. Only thing that I dislike is that he is goes to ground too easily.
Would he go straight into the 1st XI and can utd offer him the playing time he wants?

Good. Might actually get some free-kicks in dangerous areas now. Can't remember what they look like at Man Utd these days!

To be fair, Van Persie isn't bad at that, but the problem is that he then isn't in the box to get on the end of them :)

No, he's brilliant at Free Kicks. Our problem is getting them. We don't have players who commit opposition players into fouls like Ronaldo did. Nani doesn't beat anyone, Rooney doesn't/can't beat anyone and Valencia doesn't come inside enough to win any.

Fair enough, thank you for that.

What the President / article doesn't say is what his release clause was last summer (ie after 2011/12 season did he play the required number of games before getting "reset" for the 12/13 season in which he definitely did not play enough games / minutes).

Its a minor thing either way, it doesn't really matter but reading between the lines it could still mean either.

Either way it looks like the player has a tough choice to make - be a bench warmer for the important games, and wait "his turn" at Barca, or start majority of matches at Utd and conceivably become a good choice for the WC team next summer (in his father's homeland).

edit - Would be very nice to have one or two viable options for free kicks/corners that's for sure.

Then he should stay then if he awaiting a new manager to join.

Exactly, if he wants to wait and see what his options are regarding the new Real manager then he and his father shouldnt be going round and saying he wants a move to another club.

Last i heard was that we are trying to tie up the deal and Real have said he can go but who knows what the real story is regarding Higuain. One thing is for certain, he wont be a bit part player at Arsenal, he will be our main man.

As for Rooney??, i heard Arsenal are going to offer Utd an audacious £20mill for him:p...lets see if Utd even entertain that offer. Personally i dont think Rooney is worth more than £30mill tops so lets see what happens there...again if we are getting Higuain, im not even bothered about Rooney coming or not. If he does then he needs a reality check and realise he isnt worth £300k a week.
