Marca in Spain have reported today that Manchester United are attempting to sign Falcao (it's on the front page).

At. Madrid have refused to comment:

Atletico Madrid have refused to comment on speculation suggesting Manchester United had made a move for their star striker Radamel Falcao.

The 27-year-old is one of the most coveted players in world football, with many predicting he will move this summer.

Contracted to Atletico until 2016, he has a release clause of just over £50million.

The player himself has kept his counsel and always insisted he was concentrating on getting Atletico into the Champions League - a feat they are about to achieve this term.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City were widely considered to be heading the chase for the Colombian star but now it has been claimed that Manchester United have made a move.

Atletico sources have told Sky Sports that they are not looking to make any comment on the speculation as they are not thinking about the transfer market at the moment.

One would naturally assume this is rubbish, but if Rooney is off to PSG or similar, then you never know...

Have Athletico actually refused to comment? Seems an odd thing to say if nothing has been going on?

There's more in the link, it's a "Sky Sports source", so who knows how reliable it is. :p

This is what Marca have said exactly:

Reports from Spanish newspaper Marca suggest that "a down payment has reportedly been made" and that Falcao is "just a step away from United".

Marca add that the sequence of events is nothing new because "the same thing happened two seasons ago when David de Gea left the Vicente Calderón to become a Red Devil".

Would be nice.

So one person disagreed with you? How is that 'calling' Falcao? (wow you 'called' one of the highest scoring strikers in the world, wish we were all so gifted)

And you also said in that post that we shouldn't sign Sneijder...but yesterday you were complaining we hadn't?

Ladies & gentleman of the jury, I present to you Exhibit A of the 'NickG, special or not?' case.

To conclude:

I'm not sure if you have ever been tested, but perhaps now is the time to get yourself checked out, things only get more difficult in later life and I'm not sure if you'll survive.

To be honest, that would be classic Fergie. Feels theres is something missing from the team; ignores the midfield and buys another striker.

It would be insanely funny if we bought Falcao, simply as he'd be just the latest in the growing list of strikers Chelsea fans were talking about like they already played for them :D

It really is as simple as signing decent midfielders.

We have plenty of strikers, we've got strikers of every type, poachers, play makers, fast ones, powerful ones, young ones and crap ones, we don't need any more.

What we need is at least 2 center mids and a decent left back.

Falcao would be nice but as been said... BUY SOME WORLDCLASS MIDFIELDERS!!

Every time i have seen United play City (just as an example), Toure makes our midfield look like 5 year olds.

Seriously ,we need a big powerful worldclass midfielder.

Like Bucket said WHO THOUGH???

I can just imagine it in the summer if Fergie went and bought another Djemba Djemba, people would be bitching more than if he hadn't signed anyone!!

Wanyama?
Derossi?

Try Schweinsteiger?
Vidal?

All of the above would help.

Ok so the options are a 21 year old prospect that's put in some good performances on the tele to make people go 'he's world class'.

A player that's been at one club his entire career and is nearly 30.

Another player that's been at another club his entire career that have just won the Bundesliga and is in the last four of the champions league not to mention he's nearing 30 too, oh and he's the clubs vice captain.

Vidal, a player that plays for an on the rise Juventus starting to go back to the Juve of old that's only been there for a short period of time and been a vital player for them throughout their undefeated season and is a nice FIFA player pick.

Wanyama I've never seen play and the latter three wouldn't be available (well Vidal might)

Personally despite having not seen him play I wouldn't trust another midfield signing from Scotland after Liam 'invisible' Miller and AFAIK people only started talking about Wanyama after Celtic beat Barcelona in a game Barcelona had like 99.9% of the possession.

Last summer there were midfielders out there that I wanted us to sign namely Dembele and Sahin but looking at the situation now both have been monumental flops at their new clubs, Dembele is nothing like the player he was at Fulham and Sahin couldn't even get a game at Liverpool over Joe Allen or Jordan Henderson and AFAIK he aint getting a game at Dortmund now either so maybe we dodged a bullet with both? Like I said people would be a lot more critical of SAF if he signs the wrong player than if he doesn't sign anyone at all imo
