He hasn't signed a new contract yet. Although I'm pretty sure he's on close to that anyway, didn't his wage increase each year with his contract?

But yeah, if they pay him as much as Ronaldo, they are just off their heads

I thought it was either a 20% or 25% payrise each year of his contract which meant that in his last year he would be on over £500k / week.

People saying Spurs have handled it badly, are you mad? Madrid tapping up your star player, the president, manager, coach (footballing legend), spanish mouthpiece paper all saying he is ours, when he is contracted to Spurs....Madness.

.

I am not a spurs fan, but have to agree, I think spurs have handled this deal really well.
Can only assume the posters mocking the way they handled this are a bit bitter:(

I dont wnt us to sign people for the sake of signings, my gripe has been with how we've conducted our business for the 2nd summer trasnfer window in succession. We've been Arsenal level amateur, your happy with that, I'm not.

Thank Christ it closes in 3 days :)

How how did you feel about the January 2013 window?
I don't think we had the transfer committee in place last summer did we?

I thought this summers transfer window started well. We handled the Suarez curveball well. Our more eye catching targets went to team that could offer more in footballing terms. I think we possibly weren't prepared for that scenario.

Just waiting to see what we can do in the next few days.

Why precisely is it you chose to quote things like that, restate precisely what I've just said in different words, then pretend you are proving a point that I don't get.... even though its exactly what I said already?

Absolute bovtash, i'm not trying to make you look like a mug on the forum. I'm genuinely trying to understand your view, I'm putting perfectly reasonable comments to you. You blame Wenger for everything though, you've never been critical of the board and the ideology of the football club/business when i've seen you post.

Yes, in an ideal world we'd replace Skrtel and Coates but only if the right player is available

Replace Coates? as in sell him?

This window started off very well, we strengthened in goal which was badly needed, however as time has gone on we've lapsed back into previous windows workings. There are questions to be answered in who decides the worth of a player. I've heard rumors that the Willian stuff was handled by a non football person and he decided we wouldnt go above our intial low ball offer. I'm fine with missing out on targets due to footballing reasons (CL football etc etc) but when its our own stupidity that means we miss out that annoys me.

Suarez was handled well, eventually, but only when JH got involved, imo it shouldnt have had to go that far.

January was good, but it appears to have had a knock on effect this window, do FSG see the success we had with the value of Coutinho (and Sturrdge to a degree) as a reason not to go above their initial valuations? Who knows.

I don't really see how its make or break for Spurs, I've seen this mentioned a few times. They have sold their best player for ~£100m and used the money to strengthen across the board. Its not like they're spending money they dont have or wont have by the end of the window. Its sustainable spending. Its not like they'll be spending another £50m in Jan followed by a further £100m next summer and racking up huge debts.

Exactly, if Bale goes for £86m + the £20m we've already sold would make us break even. I doubt they would risk over spending with a new stadium currently being built.
