Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

With PSG and City anything is possible. They're not in it for the money but they have bottomless pits of it and if they can work around FFP then nothing is off the table.

The knock on effects is what will be most interesting to see. Barca are now going to be under huge pressure to buy a high profile replacement and if they really do want somebody like Coutinho, they're going to have to pay an equally ridiculous fee*. And it turn whoever they buy from will be faced with the same problems.

*Something I doubt they will do.

You only have to look at what's come out regarding his move to Barca to see that money was the big motivating factor for him/his dad.

because it will now get into coutinho's head (or his agents) and he'll want to move. no player on the planet is going to turn down barca and liverpool will have to opt for a deal more favourable to them, or be left with a player whose head isn't in it with them any more. be a good test of klopps calibre this.
I think we'll end up taking our chances if Barca don't offer an absurd amount. They've made an offer already by all accounts and we've not seen the tiniest bit of discontent from Coutinho so far.

I have no doubts that he'd want to join them, I'm less certain that he'd attempt to push through a deal though, in fact I think it's very unlikely.

The value of Coutinho to Liverpool is far more than the value of him to Barca imo. They'd be far better off going after somebody like Dybala than Coutinho.
Because I think he's genuinely happy at Liverpool (even if he'd like to join Barca), it would be hugely out of character and I can't see it doing much to change Liverpool's stance. With a world cup coming no player is going to sulk for a season and Klopp/Liverpool have shown that they have no problem sending a senior player to the reserves if they don't show the right attitude.

He wouldn't be a bit part player, he would definitely start but as you said in an earlier post, i can see Barca buying Dybala and another player for the money that Coutinho would cost.
He wouldn't be signed as a bit part player but he wouldn't be a star of the side like Messi and Suarez and if things weren't going well he'd be expendable.

how long's he going to want to be the main man at liverpool? he has no loyalty to the club historically. the world cup will just be another bargaining chip for his agent, along with the champions league competitiveness he'd get at barca, the players, the history, the climate, the way they play, no mignolet.....

I've not disputed that he'd like to join Barca. I asked how the world cup would be used to persuade him. Pushing for a move away from Liverpool is far more likely to damage his world cup hopes than improve them.

Again cm, I've not disputed that Coutinho would like to join Barca. I don't believe he'd do anything drastic to push a move through though and I don't understand how the world cup coming would make it more likely, as you claimed.

He's saying because he'd be less likely to be injured, which, i can see what he's saying. Whether it's as a bigger factor as he thinks is another question, only Coutinho could really answer that, the logic is there though
Unless I'm mistaken, Suarez didn't missed a single game for Liverpool through injury but has missed 3 games for Barca. You're clearly more likely to get injured playing for Barca than Liverpool :p

lol...fair enough. I don't think its a big factor personally, Coutinho is already the star of the Brazil side, him and Neymar.
I think you were giving cm a bit too much credit anyway. I don't think his Adam comment had anything to do with missing the world cup through injury, it was just a general rant over Adam's history of injuring Spurs players.

I thought it was £75m rising to £90m + the pay off to Rooney? That's certainly what Everton were saying and how they justified calling it a £100m deal.

Just to add fuel to the fire, as well as Lallana, Coutinho has supposedly picked up a knock and will miss tomorrow's friendly.

We were already short in midfield but with Lallana being out for so long we've got to bring another midfielder in now.

edit: a few reports that Barca are close to agreeing a deal for Dembele.

Forgot about their Dembele. What happened to the mega money move to the PL that was being touted about? Seems like it was talk coming from Celtic trying to drum up interest.

Dele Ali? He's hardly a natural a natural left sided forward is he? And Dembele's not overrated - he's incredibly raw but he's hugely talented.

Hazard is though, I'd have him down to go to Barca without a seconds thought. Doesn't strike me as having a ounce of loyalty similar to Adebayor in that respect.
Agree, he is and would be one of the most logical replacements but as I've been trying to say regarding Coutinho, Barca need to persuade Chelsea too. Chelsea are under no pressure to sell Hazard and although Hazard appears like somebody more likely to kick up a stink, ultimately if Chelsea hold firm he'll have no choice but to knuckle down come September 1st.

The only way I can see Barca being able to sign Hazard (or Coutinho) is if they offer way over what most of us would consider a fair value. I'm not convinced they will or whether they even could if they wanted to.
