Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

Perisic or James for 40 million?

Different types of player, Perisic is a more direct wide player which is what we need. If you think Real Madrid would have sold us James for £40m then that's wishful thinking.

I agree with what is being said above, James is a very capable player but he's a luxury player and not actually that great - I doubt he'd be much more effective than Mata or Mkhitaryan in that sort of role.

I'm slightly concerned with the reports (reliable ones) that Mourinho is telling Woodward to pay £60m for Dier. That is mental. He'd have to improve massively to be worth that. Hope it's another smokescreen... :p

I don't know why you lot are talking about James and Perisic when there is a chance we will pay actual money for Dier. He is so average it hurts. Whenever he has played for england he has been a liability and I have never seen him do much for spurs either. Please please please don't pay any money for him Jose.

What I find hilarious is that the second he signs for another team, NOW people come out and say "well he isn't that good, we were never after him"

Anyway, James is a luxury player but also real dont have a formation/setup/system that utilises him properly so he wasn't even given a chance. Rather than keep an unhappy player, they offloaded him to work with Ancelotti in what I consider to be one of the best transfers we will see this season, as it represents almost zero risk for Bayern. When you consider the recent/proposed transfer fee's of players who are not actually that good (lol 40 mil for perisic for example) bayern getting him for that amount if it pans out is excellent business. Hype or not James has delivered when played.

Real are a strange bunch though, di maria and ozil were both absolutely amazing, yet moved on - sometimes it just goes that way.

Dier is an odd one, he has his moments but switches off far too often, he certainly won't be cheap! EPL transfers are hilarious at how disorganised it all seems, especially at city/chelsea at the moment.

Chelsea are a weird one. There is no way they are not going to spend a few hundred million this window buy they have pretty much done absolutely nothing so far.

Exactly the point I was making when I called him a luxury player. He's a talent but he's not good enough to justify being carried.

I'll carry him around the Emirates on my back if he came to us and only put him down when he wanted to kick the ball. He's a super footballer and worthy of any team. Real are just mental in how they do their business. They'll move someone on for no apparent reason just because someone else has caught their eye.

So Ozil has pretty much said he is staying at Arsenal. Read somewhere that the contract is pretty much 90% done now, should be finalised when they get back from their tour.
As for Giroud??, there is still a chance he might be sold. Pretty much said in an interview that he has no problem with moving clubs. He just wants more first team football and barring an injury to Lacazette, I can't see him getting much. Although we have plenty of games for him to play ie europa league and the usual cup games.

Sanchez is the main worry though, no sign of him signing a contract. Unless Wenger has something lined up for him.

Swansea have rejected Everton's £40m bid for Sigurdsson, crazy market. Puts many other fees into perspective if this is how it's going.

They just need to sell him abroad if he is leaving. I didn't like the rumour he would stay for £400k. Much rather we let him go. Would have more respect if he was going to have a better chance of winning something, which is fair.

If it's purely money, sell abroad and try and get in a replacement.

I'm pretty confident he won't go to a direct rival. With the appointment of Lehman and the way we are chasing players (Arsene and Gazidis essentially went straight from the FA Cup final into the market) it seems as though they know things need to be different. They do right? :)

To be honest, I think Sig at £40m is a better buy than Keita at £70m or Dier at £50m. He's class, one of the best CAMs in the league.

Thats only because both of the other transfers you mention are nuts. Dier is a £30m player max and thats only because transfer fees are nuts. He isn't even in the top 20 players in his position.
