With Norwich, Bournemouth and probably Villa all done for now, has there every been a season where so many top 4/6 quality players have been relegated? Lewis, Cantwell, Beundia, Aki, Brooks, Mings, McGinn & Grealish all wouldn't look out of place in most PL squads.

Reckon Grealish Cantwell and Brooks will likely be picked up by a PL club. Grealish maybe at United, Cantwell I'm unsure about. Brooks is back from a serious knee injury, most clubs will keep a watching brief to make sure he's recovered properly and is playing like before. I do wonder where Ryan Fraser will end up as well.

I'd love Cantwell at Liverpool. He can unlock defences from a slightly more advanced position than any of our current midfielders do, and has a work rate which suits Klopp. Would also take Ake as a Lovren upgrade.

I'd definitely take Aki as he'd box off two issues for us - left sided CB cover and cover at LB. Would Aki join us to cover VVD and Robertson though? I doubt it.

Reports linking us with Thiago seem to be picking up pace in the last couple of days with several Spanish based journo's now saying it's all but done. Instinctively I'd say it's bs, Liverpool don't sign 29 year old midfielders for any significant fee but none of the Liverpool based journo's have dismissed the stories, which they're usually quick to do.

After all the Twitter stick you give me! Look at you now saying stuff that's only picking up pace on twitter :p

From where? Weren't the stories coming out in the last week, from Utd's end at least, that they wouldn't pay more than £50m for him?

I'm pretty sure that was from Sky Sports instagram, it wasn't even on their website. No reliable journalists were saying that. Fabrizio is still saying the player wants the move but no agreement between the clubs yet.

It was on their website and while others haven't quoted fees, a number of the Utd press pack followed on from the story saying that while Utd wanted Sancho, they weren't prepared to pay the £100m+ fee. You've then had several comments from Woodward regarding mega transfer fees too.

As for Fabrizio, I've always wondered how he and his boss, Italian journalists, always have the inside scoop on transfers involving English clubs and non Italian sides/players. It's almost as if they're blaggers that have cottoned onto the fact that if you link big PL sides with transfers you get loads of clicks. I've lost count of the number of times he, Di Marzio and Tancredi have claimed Liverpool, Utd etc have or were close to signing x. FWIW Fabrizio and Tancredi have also jumped on the Thiago to Liverpool bandwagon, after some reports coming out of Spain claimed a deal was close, something I suspect is bs.

They're just professional indykaila's.

Romano's success rate for United is ridiculously high, he's as close to reliable as journalist comes for us.
All he does is report transfer stories. Quite literally every transfer he has a view on, usually after somebody else has reported it.

Just looking through his page on the Guardian, every single article he has is a transfer story (including one a few months back saying Pogba still wants to leave Utd btw), very few of which ever materialise. I'm still waiting on Liverpool to sign Gaston Ramirez. I lost count of the amount of times he said we were negotiating for him.

I don't believe for one second he has any reliable contact at Utd. He's a blagger.

Im with you on this, I think its bs too, whole thing makes no sense to me. 29 years old, dollop of money and I mean what are his stats for this season, 25 appearances or something, 3 goals and no assists? Just doesnt seem like something we'd be jumping at. I get the feeling its just his agent trying to stir up interest in his player.

Personally I think a more likely signing will be Cantwell. Young, freshly relegated, versatile positionally, energetic, decent stats, cheap. Fits all the criteria and a similar scenario as Andy Robertson was. Under Klopps guidance I think that Cantwell could become something special.

Cantwell would be well down in the pecking order. We need a backup for Firmino more then anything so Thiago, who i believe could do that job, makes sense to me. Id take Willian aswell but Ake i imagine is Chelsea bound...id also rather play Hoever or Fabinho there if necessary.
