Cantwell would be well down in the pecking order. We need a backup for Firmino more then anything so Thiago, who i believe could do that job, makes sense to me. Id take Willian aswell but Ake i imagine is Chelsea bound...id also rather play Hoever or Fabinho there if necessary.
Thiago isn't remotely like Bobby? If anything he is a wnjaldum replacement/cover

Would have to be cover I imagine, if its for Wijnaldum, they're the same age and Gini's stats are better, so he would have to be backup for Gini. I know the market is a pricey place these days but for a 29 year old backup, its a lot of money in my book, especially when we've got Fabinho, Milner and Henderson and at a push Keita on the books who can fill in for Gini if desperate . I'd much rather we bought someone younger to do that role and ease them into it as backup for Gini with a view to being his replacement in a few years. With finances being as tight as we are "saying", I'd still prefer that we nabbed Cantwell, even if its not a like for like deal.

Not in a million years. Leeds cant afford it and thats before we get into whether Messi prefers Barcelona or Headingley.

Paris I can see but he'll prob sign a ridiculous new deal and retire.

This Thiago chat is not going away with Bild again reporting that a deal between the player and us is done, with the fee still to be negotiated. It would be lovely if it were true but I refuse to believe that Liverpool will spend more than £2.50 on a 29 year old that picks up semi regular muscle injuries. The story just won't go away though and Liverpool press pack are not ruling it out, like they always do.

Does seem to be gathering momentum, even heard on the radio that supposedly Klopp has green lighted it. Does seem an odd transfer imo.

Injuries aside it doesn't seem that odd, considering we have keita who whilst shows quality at times also gets injured allot.

I don't think Gini has extended his contract yet so maybe Klopp is thinking could cover them?

I'd still we rather spent on another striker myself

Name the last time we spent any meaningful amount of money on a 29 year old, regardless of injury records. I'm seriously struggling to remember the last time we spent anything more than a few million on a stop gap signing on anybody over the age of 27. £6m on Morientes in 2005, which is probably £20m in todays money is the last one I can think of.

We've never been a club that spends big on 28, 29 year olds and that's only been further reinforced since FSG tookover. Throw in the fact that our midfield work like animals and he has a history of muscle injuries and the reports seem so illogical. But still, nobody is dismissing them.

That striker is Brewster mate. Firmino, Origi and Brewster will be our options next season.

Manchester City are close to completing the signing of Bournemouth and Netherlands defender Nathan Ake, 25. (Guardian)

Yea...dont get this one. I dont think that particularly improves them at all.

City are just going to spend a few hundred million on their defence this summer and if that doesn't work they will do it again next summer.

God forbid they do any scouting or look to their youth. Is Ake any better then what they already have? Id argue no tbh.

Unless City are planning on signing another, higher quality, right sided CB then the Ake links make no sense to me. I've said I'd take Ake at Liverpool because we have a settled back 4, we just lack left sided cover both at LB and left sided CB. Ake ticks both of those boxes. City on the other hand need a right sided CB to partner Laporte and a first choice LB. I'm not sure Ake's good enough to be a first choice at a top side, he's a left sided CB and although he can cover LB, he's not a natural LB.

That’s what I don’t understand about city. They spent a lot of money on their facilities and scouting etc and they seem to want to be Barca MK.2 yet Rosen is about the only player their academy has produced in the last 10 years. That’s something I would like to see. Homegrown player quotas.
