Summer Transfer Window 2021/2022

What made Ronaldo want to leave Juventus? Was he not getting played or something? I don't follow the Italian leagues so I have no idea how he's done.

It looks like an amazing bit of business for £20m, the only downside I could see is if he unbalances the team as he'll probably be guaranteed a starting place and it'll be like having Rooney in his later years again.

City signing Ronaldo never made any sense. If there's a player on the planet so far away from what Pep wants in his players then it's Ronaldo. The only way I could make sense of the link was that Abu Dhabi wanted to make a big statement signing on the back of Qatar getting Messi.

I don't know, I think he gets more game time at City and they need his finishing as a stop gap far more than United do. I think considering the forwards United have it's a bizarre panic signing. I'd love to know what he's getting per week.

Fair play to united, constantly providing one last pay day to old players, even the useless ones to ease them into retirement. Care in the community. City should put a bid in for Greenwood.

It's not amazing business at all, what's the total cost of the package. It's for a position you don't require cover. 6 years ago this is good business.

It sends out a good signal of intent for the club - I think City did want him, Pep more or less said so himself. He may have had reservations but Ronaldo would have helped their team by offering something different.

From a commercial perspective he's the most marketable player in history.

Playing as a striker he'll fit into our team fine, as well as helping pretty much every other player at the club, especially the younger ones. It's not as if we've got some set in stone way of playing, we very much rely on individuals a lot of the time - enter Ronaldo.

I never actually thought he'd come back, what a deal.

I'd be interested to know (from Utd fans only) , with Ronaldo's return what now would you deem to be a successful season and what would you deem to be a failed season ?

Would the minimum for success be a major trophy? Or would no trophy but coming close to the league be enough? If you ended in the top 4 but won the FA or League cup would that be a failed season or would the requirement for success be the CL or EPL?

Ronaldo has never been a player in a system where you dominate the opposition and camp outside their box. City made no sense in that regard.

We have a 36 year old Cavani who by all accounts might be missing for most of September/October. Rashford won't be back for 2 months and even then won't be fit. Martial is at most a very very inconsistent striker and Greenwood isn't a CF yet if he ever will be.

We very much could use another forward.

That being said, I think this is a pretty awful decision and one that I imagine Ole didn't make. I might be wrong.

I never understood all the suggestions that City needed a centre forward so badly. They're comfortably the top scorers in the League each season and I'd bet they are again this year without signing a striker.

It wasn't just that I didn't think City really needed a CF but of all the forwards they could have signed, he's the most un-Pep forward going.

Don't you start with this. He's got a 2 year deal and you're already tied into long term deals for all your major commercial agreements. He'll make some difference but nothing major and it certainly won't put a dent in his wages.
When he joined Juve he was seen as the missing piece in the jigsaw that was going to take Juve back to the top of European football, having come so close to winning the CL in previous years. In the end Juve become noticeably worse with him in the side, resulting in them very nearly missing out on CL qualification last year. Juve wanted his £30m odd wages off the books and he wanted another challenge.

Might be wonderfully nostalgic getting one of the best players ever back at OT, and Im sure he will score a lot of goals - but we still have a pretty ordinary central midfield....is the plan to outscore everyone?

hmmm Ronaldo coming in - does this "force" Martial out (I read Cavani now has a knee injury , this might suggest "no" if true) - will probably mean Lingard goes to WHU (or Everton?) even if they dont play in the same position, with Greenwood, Sancho, Rashford back in training (albeit probably still 4 - 6 weeks away from significant game time) all of them good enough to cover multiple positions....I guess the next 4-5 days will tell all

RM raise their offer for Mbappe (esp if Juve have just bought Hazard to replace CR) , might that mean PSG try a low ball offer for Pogba with 2 days to go? (would certainly offset the massive wage issue Man Utd now have if CR is taking home best part of 500k a week)

Title challenge until the last few weeks of the season and at least semi final of the CL. Honestly if we don't win anything of note there isn't much benefit to him. Who cares if we get CL or SF of CL. Who cares if we come 2nd instead of 3rd.

While it's great to have Ronaldo, unless he's playing at an incredible level, I still don't think it means we win anything really. A defensive midfielder would still be nice...

We've got to come close to the top of the league - the manner in which that happens is important too, and latter stages of the CL. Nobody cares about the FA Cup/League Cup.

We've already paid his transfer fee and wages for 2 years in shirt sales today alone, mate.

With Chelsea bringing back Lukaku and Utd bringing back Ronaldo, would be nice if Liverpool jumped on the bringing back former players boat and brought back Suarez for a couple of seasons :)
