Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Bit strange though as I thought he was one of your more highly rated youngsters, here and on redcafe he was being pushed to start more.
I'm a bit perplexed also. He offers something a bit different but ends up falling between 2/3 stools. He lacks a bit of physicality but stood up to the hurly burly of the Championship quite well. He doesn't have great pace like Jacob Ramsay but has a decent engine. He passes competently and delivers a good corner/dead ball. He's also got a better touch than Fred or McTominay so I can't fathom why we wouldn't give him a chance. He also has a pressing work ethic and decent positional sense. Zidane Iqbal also has loads to offer but needs to fill out a bit.

I really don't understand it. We're crying out for a deep midfielder and he excelled in the Championship, which is not exactly a soft league.

He should have at least been given a chance. I'm sure Forest will be delighted to sign him for £15m.

I doubt it's more than a coincidence however 15m for Garner is roughly the same value as the deferred wages for FDJ.

Problem is... say if United somehow pull of FDJ, he isn't magically going to solve the problems, he's the start but majority of the team need binning and it's going to take another 2 summer windows to shift them on at least.

If I was Frenkie and I had just watched the last 2 United games I would be telling any club that would listen that all my wage demands have just lowered by £100k/week as long as I don't have to go to United.

It certainly seems that way. I suppose if the club still think FDJ will join, costing £70m~, and Martinez £50m~, that's the £120m budget that was spoken about before the window.

I suspect Garner will be leaving to make way for Rabiot...?

ETH still wants Antony too but he'll be £50m+

There's also now an even bigger question mark over Ronaldo, some at the club are briefing against him. We know he wants out. We also need a striker, arguably we need one even if he stays.

I think so too. We must look massively unappealing to any player already at a top club. Barca are trying to force him out though, so that's not ideal for him.

I'm at the point with Ronaldo that I would tell him that he is free to leave as long as we get the fee we want (which seems to be abound £10m). His wages are his problem and if he is that desperate to leave then he needs to make the sacrifice in wages required to find a suitor.

If he doesn't then we expect him to behave like a professional or he will be told not to show his face at the club again for the remainder of his contract.

I'm pretty sure we've already done that privately. Problem is nobody wants him

From what I understand. We said we wanted X to let him leave. He hasn't been able to find anyone to pay X and pay his silly wages. He seems unwilling to take a big pay cut and we seemed happy to keep him when he couldn't find a move. Hes now behaving like an entitled child and the club needs to tell him that he needs to sort himself out or fix a move or he will be Ozil'ed.

So aside from FDJ and Antony, we're currently linked with -

  • Rabiot - Juventus are trying to give him away, a worse version of Pogba, probably better than McTominay, his mother/agent is crazy

  • Icardi - unstable agent/wife (Wanda), lots of issues, very inconsistent

  • Morata - misses more than he scores

  • Vardy - age 35

  • Arnautovic - not happening now but it shouldn't have been on the table to start with

Where is the scouting department?!

Impossible to say from the outside, are they not being listened to? Not being used properly? Incompetent? We got rid of our head of global scouting and chief scout and haven't replaced them. It seems Murtough and one of the data guys are running scouting now.

Its so strange that other teams are simply buying midfields and Utd are unable to.

I did read somewhere that ETH didn't rate the current set of Man Utd youngsters but can't find the article..probably a random rumour with no basis to try and explain the lack of 'trying new things'.

It's frustrating how slowly we're moving on players. We've sold a grand total of 0 players who were here last year. Just Pereira and Levitt who were out on loan.

Mm indeed.

I was expecting a swoop of 5-6 players in a few days, signed and sealed following ETH's recommendations. The club knew so many players were leaving/contracts done/made other plans.

I honestly don't think its that hard a job. There are companies out there that will tell you which side of the plate a 15 year old prospect from North Korea likes his gruel. Something is clearly going wrong and up to a point changing your manager and generally going from completely different styles of manager to completely different style of manager doesn't help. I would almost suggest that its worse when you are a rich club and you do that. You end up with sub par players that don't suit the new system but have big ego, big salaries you can't move on and the club has seemingly put players above the team for years now.

What I can't understand is the lack of attempts to bring in quality CMs. Plenty of clubs try and fail but they keep trying.
