Summer Transfer Window 22/23

As to state of old Trafford, think I commented on how it's a ******** around the start of last season and was mocked by man u fans as being wrong, now of course the state of it's the current thing to bash the glaziers, so yeah.

Compared to the nou camp or the San Sirio it's a shinning example of a modern stadium.

It's not a terrible stadium by any means, but it's had a serious lack of investment. This is a simple fact.

I'm sure you know why your posts get the response they do, and that's all they often deserve.

Both inter and Milan are trying to either upgrade the SS or move to a new ground.

Barca are literally renovating the stadium, they got the green light a couple of months ago.

You look at a lot of teams in and around the CL they’ve all got new or update stadiums.

Bayern, Juve, Arsenal, Atletico, Spurs, City etc all have new stadia

Madrid are upgrading theirs as well. Liverpool just finished their upgrade.

Everton, Roma/Lazio are trying to do the same as well.

You've just splashed out 60 million plus on a 4ft CB, I'd be wary of giving him more money too :D
Well yeah if they didn't have the Glaziers they most likely wouldn't have ended up in this situation with zero planning or direction and a stadium and training ground that has had little investment.

I can't believe anyone actually believes that the 1.1B or whatever the figure is would make little difference because of the bad spending under the Glaziers.

I don't believe it makes financial sense to improve old Trafford does it, I think that's what I read somewhere, might have been the athletic.
Your training ground is essentially newer than Chelsea's too I believe, or major parts of it are. Think it was improved upon in 2013.

Yes we have improved Anfield (a lot of drama involved though) and moved from melwood to a new training center - think the were both paid for essentially by interest free loans from fsg and selling melwood - although that may have just be the stands that have had work done.

I’m sure those shipping containers are newer.

From what I’ve seen/read/heard the training ground is miles behind everyone in the top 6 but not only that the foxes and a couple of others too. I guess it‘ll be behind Newcastle soon as well.

Pretty astounding for the club who claim to be the biggest in the world.

This is just marketing spiel. Carrington had a major revamp in 2013. It is still a top tier training centre.

Old Trafford is old yes but all it needs is a stand building over the railway tracks. They can kill two birds with one stone and make it hospitality focused for all the fat cats. With that done Old Trafford will eclipse everyone in the league with a 90k+ stadium that will fill week in week out.

Demolishing old Trafford is what a small club like Spurs would do. Way too much history and the stadium already has a fantastic atmosphere already. It just needs investment.

Coming back to transfers, reports are coming out that the club are considering terminating Ronaldo's contract if his demeanour doesn't improve... which is exactly what he wants, so not much of a threat.

I would have a lot of respect if they did that. Arsenal had the balls to do it twice and they benefitted massively from it.

Yes and my point is that the glaziers put their trust in 2 football people for a decade, Ferguson and Gill, when they both left in 2013 there was a massive void in that the people they recommended (Moyes, utterly bizarre) and Woodward (not a football man) weren't up to scratch, Woodward at least did a job with the non football side of things though. If you want to direct your ire at people look right there, the mistakes made weren't solely the responsibility of the glaziers but some people seem immune from criticism due to their standing within old Trafford.

Re the Glazers, the £1.5bn figure isn't true. The actual amount of cash that's come out of the club is around £1.1bn and when you take off the tax savings, it's closer to £900m. Utd were hardest hit 10+ years ago when the interest rates were far higher and their revenue far lower. Unfortunately at that time too many Utd supporters didn't give a ****. Just like Hicks and Gillett at Liverpool, the Glazers were juggling their debt, refinancing every year or so and had Utd fans been more organised and disciplined, they'd have been able to do what Liverpool fans done with H&G and force them out. One thing that always makes me laugh is Utd fans refusal to acknowledge Ferguson's part in the Glazer ownership. His fall out with the horse racing guys played a part in the Glazers taking over the club and because they gave him more control than he previous had when the club was a PLC, he continuously defended them from the minority of fans that could see that they were raping the club. Maybe had he spoke up then more fans would have took action and Utd wouldn't be owned by the Glazers today.

The cost of the Glazers ownership is no longer significant. You're talking about £40m per year on revenues of circa £600m. There has been no shortage of funds made available for Utd to spend - they've chosen to spend them on the squad, which was the right decision because that's the priority of any football club, but they've simply spent terribly. As I said yesterday in the matchday thread, the biggest failing of the Glazers (in recent years at least) is the fact that they've not employed anybody with an ounce of competence to run the club.

And that is the crux of the matter for me - it's the Glazers own fault. It doesn't make sense on any level. It would actually end up saving a lot of money as hundreds of millions wouldn't have been fluffed on inadequate players.

James Garner transfer listed (effectively), £15m~.

Not even getting a chance, I thought he would. It's not like we're blessed with great midfielders.

Bailly too.

Still no imminent incomings...
