Summer Transfer Window 22/23

Coutinho very rarely played as a 10 when he was with us. More often than not he played off the left of a front 3 or in a deeper midfield role and his performances as a midfielder were off the charts.
I'm not saying he's poor in those roles, I'm saying that he doesn't fulfill everything expected of a top modern midfielder.

Whether he still can, I'm not sure but I couldn't disagree more regarding him during his time with us. It was Rodgers that picked him as an 8 first, in the derby of all games and I can remember wondering whether he had the physicality, work rate and discipline to play there and he was outstanding that day. He then played there again in the 5-1 game vs Arsenal (when we were 4-0 up after 20 mins) and was unreal again. He didn't play much there over the next couple of seasons as he was needed in the front 3 but when he started playing there more again in that final 18 months he was as good as peak Salah or KDB have been. The numbers he produced for a non penalty taking midfielder were out of this world.

The way we changed and played between 18/19 and maybe last season you could argue that he didn't suit our style of play as a midfielder but that was probably unique to us. He had the tenacity and work rate to play in a midfield 3 similar to how Bernardo Silva plays with City and even how we started to play at the start of this season with Elliott in our midfield.

As above though, I'm not sure he still can do that. He's had a lot of injuries since leaving us and I'm not sure he can play with the intensity required in midfield.

He went to Villa as there wasn't much interest in him. He would have been hoping to shine get a better club. He will be in the 10th to 16th zone next year. He's signed because not even Newcastle appear to have wanted him as he's been pretty average with a couple of excellent games.

He's gone from Liverpool to Barca onto Bayern to Villa.

He went to Barca for 140 million and he isnt ripping up trees at Villa. Even a Villa podcast i listened to said if it wasnt Liverpool he wouldnt have started and Buendia would have.

Failed might be too strong but hardly been a success where he's gone.

I remember hearing that he was pretty Stella at Liverpool.

Regardless, I'd say that was more a symptom of a grossly over profited sport overstating his value then it is an endightment of his playing abilities. Guy just wants to enjoy his football again and Villa is as good a club as any to do that, certainly better then a club like Newcastle who will hawk every player with ability and be extremely rotational in the coming years.

His last season he was unreal for us but he hasn’t kicked on is all I think people are saying. I don’t think it helps that Liverpool have in his absence to be fair.

I think it just frustrates me that a player can't be seen as wanting to play for the sport anymore. He took a 70% wage cut, maybe he's staying because he likes the club and enjoys being played, would that be so hard to believe for some people?

He took a 70% wage cut because no one would pay the wage. Why didn't he stay at Liverpool, a club he said he enjoyed and go to Barcelona? Why not take a 70% pay cut and stay at Bayern? The same reason James Rodriguez ended up at Everton. Big moves and didn't get close to their potential afterwards, moved around various leagues trying to get someone to pay the wages until enough clubs have been bitten.

Any truth in this Liverpool have put an offer in for Mbappe rumour?
This rumour has been running for about 3 years. I'm sure if he was open to joining us then we'd be in for him as any top club would be and we've made that position clear to him but it appears to be a straight fight between Real and staying at PSG now.

Yeah, think he carried crappy baggage with him. Didn't some ropey stuff come out about how he treated his GF?

Also, the one time i've seen him interviewed - he just seemed really stupid.

It is a shame really but I think you are right and he lacked the right attitude. Didn't he get done for drunk driving or something like that as well?

Shame really because he had huge promise at the beginning.

It does seem a pattern though that the younger players at United have lacked the motivation and work ethic.
