Southampton with a new coach in Ruben Selles, alongside Hassenhuttel, presumably hired with some incredibly misleading sales pitch.

Commenting on his appointment, Sellés said: “It’s exciting for me to work in one of the top teams in the Premier League, to work in the best league in the world in an amazing environment in Southampton, with the crowd in St Mary’s, with a big manager like Ralph, with a lot of good players, and to have in front of you the best teams and the best players in the world, so I’m looking forward to it.”

You keep making statements without anything to back them up. If you think I'm going to take your word for anything you then you must have spent the last 45 minutes riding the waltzers. You're incredibly naive if you don't believe the vast vast majority of PL level transfers don't involve clubs agreeing deals with a player prior to negotiating a transfer fee.

Basing your arguments about current practice on a player who retired almost 20 years ago seems slightly iffy to me...

What's worse is there's literally tonnes of evidence from ex players right through to Chairman that openly admit that the vast majority of transfers begin with an approach being made to the player prior to any deal with the selling club being agreed.

Well that too. And frankly, rightly so. What's the point in doing all the work required to put finances for the deal in place if you're just going to be rejected out of hand by the player?

A side that have Gavi and Pedri tbf. While I'm sure Barca wouldn't want to be selling de Jong, those two mean he's possibly the only player Barca have that could fetch a big fee and his loss wouldn't massively hurt them.
 
Well that was being said before Liverpool's interest was even mentioned. It was pretty clear that De Jong was our priority and we can't afford to really spend huge on two targets this window unless they're being really misleading about our budget. Also afaik we never brief through the Mirror, I've never even heard of the journalist.

Saying we have a free run at him after it's widely reported that he's decided to join us comes across a bit "I didn't fancy her anyway".

Right but saying that is coming from the club is weird, it's some random **** tier journalist trying to get some clicks (which it looks like it worked)
 
Djed Spence fee reportedly agreed with Boro in the region of £20m on his way to spurs. That seems like a lot of money, has potential but he's really rough round the edges.
