Summer Transfer Window 23/24

I agree with most on here about his ability. My angle on Maguire is that he's a victim of Ole and Woodward's ridiculous decision making. They thought they were buying the staple centre back for England, a rock and core and seemed to not have remotely done their due diligence on how he plays. They put Maguire and themselves in a difficult position of having to justify his price tag at a level he just wasn't meant to be playing

He's a professional footballer and will have a degree of ego and ambition that he can be the best... Unfortunately the club inflated that.

He's been a consummate professional (Malia or wherever aside) and I hope people some sense and behave. But the vocal football fans are generally ***** so is suspect he'll get stick for the rest of his career now.

didn't say there weren't some odd moments but bad football players don't change hands for £80m, the pressure he is under these days is ridiculous every tiny mistake is analysed and played back in super slow mo to the point where plenty of fans seem to believe he is a league two player pretending to be an international defender. I'd never say he is world class but he is a good player and I think he will do well at West Ham of the two players they are signing I would be more worried about Ward-Prowse if the fans are expecting him to be a like for like replacement for Rice they are going to be very disappointed don't get me wrong he is a really talented player who will give his all but he is not at that level or the same role.

Man Utd were crying for a CB after Jose and Cb's were like how strikers are now. Pure unobtainium. He had a decent world cup and do not forget City were in for him too but United paid over the odds for him when in reality keeping Smalling would have been far better but concentrating on getting a Casemiro type player instead which is what we were really needing in all reality as McFred was never going to cut it despite how much I loved both.

Maguire will be great for WHU. As much as people take the ****, hes not a bad defender. Hes just not very quick and doesn't turn rapidly. Thats fine if you are largely defending deep and aren't worried about people running in behind.

Are you related to him? You should be absolutely thrilled he’s gone. The Glazers rubbing their hands together. WHU finally panicked.

masterstroke by edu and arteta imo

give him game time see how he is for us if he doesnt perform better than ramsdale send him back

no win no fee :p

Arsenal agree Raya loan deal with option to buy

Arsenal have agreed a deal with Brentford to sign goalkeeper David Raya on an initial £3m loan with an option to buy for £27m next summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Show, Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth said:
"We had told you Raya had entered the final year of his contract at Brentford, he has actually extended his contract at Brentford by a further year.
"Arsenal will take him on loan for a fee of £3m for the season, with the option to buy David Raya at the end of that loan for £27m.
"If Arsenal don't take up that option next summer, Brentford are protected because they have extended Raya's contract by a further season. Hence, they will still be able to get a transfer fee next summer."
"We expect Raya to have a medical this week and the whole deal to be tied up within the next 48 hours."

Just because a player doesn't fit one team doesn't mean he doesn't fit another. He was fine at United when we were playing deep and counter attacking at the start of Oles reign. He fell apart once he was asked to start playing as part of a higher line. Hes fine when he plays for England when we play our back 8 in most games.

We're apparently doing it as a) we're happy for him to leave and the transfer obligation trigger is a low amount of games but more importantly b) Arsenal have finally hit their FFP limit... or close enough to make a full transfer difficult to pull off.

A FFP fiddle is the only way this makes sense. I know Arsenal blew all their cash and having been spending on the credit card for a couple of seasons now but I didn't think they were that close to breaking FFP limits - structuring it this way only saves Arsenal around £3m on the accounts this season.

The latest Tifo podcast explains why Arsenal is actually very healthy in terms of their financials and not close to their FFP yet. Part of this reason is the write off for the pandemic between 19/20 and 20/21 season, this summer is the transfer window where the 3 years average counts so they can go nuts this year.

There accounts for last season aren't out so it's pure guess work from anybody to say what they can or can't spend and meet ffp. Also there is the PL's financial limits, which are far more lenient, and then there's UEFA's and Arsenal were put on UEFA's watch list 12 months ago for possible FFP breaches so they were clearly close to the limits then.

Well you can argue that with toshj because you're contradicting each other :p
im just going by whats being reported

its not an obligation its option to buy if not he stays at brentford
Been reported as both. An option to buy if he doesn't play enough games but an obligation to if he does play those games. And from what those well-placed fans believe, the amount of games required to play is rather low.

I don't see a scenario where he doesn't join full time next year. It's like when we loaned Schade in January... the obligation kicked in if we didn't get relegated, and the chances of relegation were miniscule.

Also means he can't play against us this season if he is the first choice gk!
