Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I have often wondered this and I came to the conclusion that its due to eating set meals each day and not being very active at all. Most prisoners, except for when training will just sit in their cell for long hours/sleeping. less calories expended = more calories for muscle growth.

you wouldnt grow though if your eating more calories than your using you would gain weight

So you're saying eating at maintenance is ideal for gaining muscle?

think about it... why are so many people large and round? when acording to your theory they should be incredible hulks

Hold on, did you actually just write that? So many people are large and round because they eat excess calories and don't workout. Obviously excess calories =/= muscle if you sit on your arse all day.

excess calories = calories your body does not need, it stores them and you get big and round.

you do not get massive muscles from over eating

Not quite that simple.

You WILL get muscles from over eating, eating the right stuff and being in a calorie surpluss will help gain muscle and size. Its simple science.

no im saying calories your body doesnt need are turned into fat.

it doesnt matter how much your pump weights if your eating more calories than your body needs these calories dont magicly turn into muscle.

simple science says more energy than your body needs gets stored as fat regardless of wether you pump weights or not.

people bulk and cut because its easier to overeat than it is to have your proper dietary needs calculated by a profesional who can tell you exactly what your requirements are to mainfain your body fat while eating enough extra to gain muscle.

also theres a reason whey protein isnt loaded with calories, because its not calories your muscles need or we could all just drink sugar shakes instead

^ something tells me you aren't au fait with the simple science.

Are we also to believe you're big and lean? Or just an armchair specialist...

Sadly though, if you have surplus calories and they aren't being used, I figured they would turn in to fat otherwise? Unless you are burning them off with cardio...But then you wouldn't be in a calories surplus :p

believe what you want go on a diet of 5000 calories a day and watch your muscles explode under your skin ;)

But that's ridiculous and you know it. No one is saying the more you eat the more muscle you gain on a linear scale, but you seem to be trying to make a point that any eating over maintenance = fat gain and isn't necessary for muscle gain.

No thanks, I'll have a sensible diet and either be under, over or at maintenance depending on my current goals.

It's not about what I, or anyone else, believe. It's about using the things that work.

As a general rule, you aren't going to gain muscle eating at or under maintenance.

You also didn't answer my question...

If you go to that much of a surplus then yeah of course you will!

But you don't unless your trying to put serious weight on and quickly.

i never mentioned a persons BMC i said excess calories and i also said

I thought it was common knowledge really...eat more than your body needs, and you will gain fat, regardless of how clean the food is?

Am I correct in think your body can only build 'so' much muscle with a required amount of food etc...?
