Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I recived my newest batch of STC whey this morning as well, if I remember this evening I'l post up a general review and flavour reviews.

Myprotein True Whey samples in; Chocolate Orange, Cookies & Cream, Toffee Fudge and Milk Chocolate have just arrived.

Going to try them later with a mate so will feedback on taste/mixability & general sexiness ;)

I was thinking of getting a couple of samples, but i just dove in and went for the chocolate smooth flavour. Will be interested to see what you like :D

'True Whey' review.

I put half of each sample into a shaker. The second shaker I matched the quanity of whey with oats to see if it masked them well enough.

I use shakers with a grid mesh & have never had any mixability problems (clumps) with any whey or powdered oats. True Whey like Impact Blend mixes perfectly. Minimal froth.

Milk Chocolate - Tasted good. Didn't jump out at me but not bad at all.
w.oats: Covered them nicely, could still tell they were there but did a good job.

Cookies & Cream - Again tasted good, couldn't taste that much cookie but only a single scoop. (Whey I tried a friends tripple scoop it was awesome)
w.oats: as above. Harder to detect the oats.

Chocolate Orange: Quite orangey and not that much chocolatey lol still nice tasteing though.
w.oats: as above:

Toffee Fudge: This had the strongest flavouring of all and I really liked this. Tasted spot on.
w.oats: Masked them prefectly.

Cookies & Cream and Toffee Fudge were both quite light fluffy powders compared to the other two.

I think I'll order another 2 samples each, chocolate orange & toffee fudge, and try a whole scoop matched with oats/ on its own, before I part with my cash. I think being half a single scoop makes the flavouring quite weak in general, even though I was using around 100-150mls of water.

I've just tried the raspberry STC whey which is the newest addition to the range, I've had the chocolate and strawberry flavours for a month or 2 and I still have the vanilla to try which I'l get round to tomorrow.

Mixability over all of the flavours is spot on, I usually mix with about 200mls water for my first try of a new flavour and it mixes with no lumps theres a bit of froth but nothing major.
At 200mls all of the flavours are quite strong and it comes out nicely thick, difficult to explain not quite as thin as bulk unflavoured but no where near as thick as MPC just a nice middle ground that makes it feel like a nice light snack. This is probably due to the fact it is a blend which contains a small amount of MPC.

Now the flavours.

Chocolate is top notch, not overly sweet but a real proper rich chocolately taste absolutly spot on for calming that little sweet tooth you may get while dieting.

Strawberry is quite sweet possibly slightly too sweet for some but mixed with a little extra water knocks the sweetness down a bit while still keeping a good strong strawberry flavour without any of the funny fake chemical tinge you can get with some.

Raspberry is just right the best way to describe it is like melted raspberry ripple ice cream, its got a nice raspberry flavour with the slight creamyness of the whey coming through in the background.

I'l update in the morning with how I find the vanilla

:D

Yeah, and I'm already 4lbs up! :o Eating everything in sight though. I was at a friend's house last weekend for a curry, and ended up finishing most of other people's too. :o

Of course it's all muscle, and no water retention ;)

lol!

I haven't a problem finishing other peoples food! When I worked at a pub during summer 1st year of uni I used to eat customers left overs! :( Half eaten Ribeye steak isn't going in the bin if I can help it! :D

Had the most epic carb re-load today it's been great.

LOL!

The prevalence of whey is incredible now. I remember years ago it was seldom something had even heard of unless you were into your bodybuilding.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing, modern diets are rubbish now for protein - I just wish I had got in on the whey "boom"!

I know exactly what your saying, but even now people discuss them like there some sort of secret potion.
I was at a friends family's house the other day having a bit of dinner and his cousin who's just 18 I think was sort of discussing in hushed tones with his brother how one of his mates has just started on those protein shakes, like its something you need a secret handshake and a mental problem to use.
I just had to keep quiet :D

The problem is a lot of kids take it, as a replacement for good food, and get fat thinking it's a magic potion. It's a fantastic and some would argue (I wouldn't) necessary supplement for hard trainers - I'm not a hypocrite as I do use supps as well. My comment is just in reply to your comment about the kids being quiet about it.

I think what ticks me off are people that buy £100s of supps without really having a clue about nutrition, diet, sport and anything to do with it. Which for most people here on OcUK doesn't apply as people here are pretty clued up - it's just a general observation. :)

The amount of people I've heard say 'Protein shakes did nothing for me'.

What do you expect? Just because a juiced up model is using them doesn't make them mircale grow. The fact your workout consists entirely of bicep & tricep isolations won't help either.

I've also heard the 'I've just started on the shakes' line plenty of times.

Indeed - that's EXACTLY my point. That attitude and "knowledge" really makes me want to drop a dumbell on their face. :/

Damn these 'roids! :D :p

L Leucine worth getting as well as some of the cheap whey (impact I think? ) from MP?
They also recommend creatine but sounds a bit dodgy.

I'm looking to put on lean muscle
comments appreciated

on that note, some chap was being talked to at the gym by the manager and someone else, being told to leave and not come back, the chap was nearly crying, I heard talk of the police and injections...

I have an old Endorush bottle (energy drink, the mofo cost £5, I will damn well use the bottle again!), the amount of people who ask how much protein is in it, when I only use it for water now, is ridiculous.

If you're going to pulse the Leucine I'd say yes, as it's quite cheap. Read up on this. Read up on creatine too.

Personally just stick with whey. You won't be able to 'see' results from either.
