Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I think clinical acne is unavoidable although diet can cause an outbreak in spots.

Indeed some people are pre-disposed, but can mitigate the effects by a decent diet and proper application of medication. However, irrespective of that, clinical acne aside, diet directly affect EVERY part of your life, body, mind, everything. Your body is an amazing machine that works in balance and like balance, and depending on how you fuel it, the fuel you use will shift the balance to a certain extent.

Look at Med diets, and those living there, good quality skin, but then they are exposed to sunshine too which helps as well.

How come people in GD are always going on about how there is no evidence that what you eat has any affect on spots? I've never felt the need to look into it either way but they always seem adamant.

Having had them for nearly all of my teens I can safely say to you it DOES. The second I touch any form of whey i get atleast a couple spots the next day. That said, I can eat chocolate without having any breakouts. Theres a lot and lot of different variables that could cause spots from food, but there is definately a connection for me.

How spots form?

1. Dead skin blocks your pores
2. Oil cannot escape your pore leading to a build up
3. Bacteria form and multiply inside the oily pore
4. This leads to a spot forming

Q. How can you break this cycle?

A. Wash the affected area twice a day everyday using a facial scrub (the cream with the abrasive bits in it).

People are just too lazy to follow this simple advice, you need to wash your face/back or wherever you get spots 2 times a day using an abrasive scrub. This is to ensure all dead skin gets washed off and prevents it from blocking pores. People tend to do it either once a day or twice a day for a few days then stop, or only do it when they get spots, by then its too late, you need to do it every single day without fail.

I've never had spots or acne ever, the most number of spots i've ever had on my face at any one time has probably been two, i just never get them, i cant even remember the last time i had a spot its been so long. I also eat a lot of desserts and chocolate. I have junk food on occasion too but only once a week and i never go near mc donalds unless forced to do so by friends. So yeah it has nothing to do with food, but to do with your own skin, especially dead skin.

Again, through my experience of spots it just isnt that simple. Youve clearly just quickly skimmed through a spot website and written down the advice.

Sure it works for some, but really these people dont suffer from spots at all, and maybe get a couple on their face a week, but for others, it just isnt down to washing your face. You need to think about stress, activity levels (going to the gym etc increasing testosterone) diet, sleep among other things.

The main cause of spots is the over production of oil, and this cannot be stopped unless you start using roaccutane. With this in mind, you can wash your face, but an hour later its there again. The next problem you have is over washing, which will cause your skin to produce more oil, therefore increasing the likely hood of spots. Match this to the fact your skin constantly has bacteria (from the air etc) and is constantly shedding its skin, and it might become clear how difficult it is to tackle them, no matter how you wash your skin.

Not being funny Psycho Sonny - but if you've never suffered then how can you possibly comment. Your analysis is uneducated and over simplified.

i know ive not suffered personally but i know people who have, friends and family. i looked into for them and thats the best advice available so it seems. one of them swears by some special cream/moisturiser that lush sell as well as one of their face masks. the combination of those 2 items from lush has completely stopped their acne. but i thought this was just down to them washing their face because you have to wash your face before and after you use a face mask. anyway theirs has cleared up and they had bad breakouts of acne before. the stuff isnt cheap mind. £15 for a tub that easily fits in your palm. i would recommend going to lush and seeing if some of their products work for you. all their products are made from natural ingredients, like fruit and vegetables, so they are much kinder to your skin, plus their bath bombs/ballistics and soaps are really nice.

Just ordered a good years supply of True Whey from My Protein.

L-Glutamine is also on offer with 20% off. Typical I brought some last week and this week it goes on offer!

Also grabbed some CEE Flavouring in Berry Blast to use with my AAKG, Citruline Mallate, Beta-Alanine, Taurine & Cafeine as it actually tastes like sick so hopefully this will mask it!

5% off your first order with discount code MP90145 :)

Lol loading up on the sups ay Benny, quite a list there.
I hope the true whey tastes better than some MPmax weight gain stuff I had from a friend. It was meant to be vanilla but it just tasted like sickly medicine...

Haha yeah, quite supp heavy at the moment!

Well the AAKG, CM, Taurine, BA, Cafeine is a replacement for the V-max or any other pre w/o / pump supplement.

I tried some samples of True Whey tasted AMAZING on it's own & with oats & cinnamon. Toffee Fudge for the win! grab a sample next time you order, best tasting whey I've ever tried!

I'd have added OAKG or replaced AAKG - it's awesome stuff, but expensive.

Yeah verrrrry pricey stuff.

What sort of dosage is recommended. It says roughly 200mg per KG of bodyweight which would mean 15-20grams per day (unless my math is awful and wrong :p)

I've been really impressed with how L-glutamine has been destroying my DOMS. I also seem to be filly out very quickly and quite well with my shoulders really catch up quicker than I'd ever anticipated. This could be due to a number or things though (bulking again, supplementation, diet) I've a feeling my supplementation is playing quite a large part but it's quite expensive!

Luckily products I brought to increase PS & lower catabolism during my cut have out lasted it so am still using them for my bulk

Anyone got some tips on making L-Glutamine taste better? First time I got it I just slapped into some water thinking, it cant taste that bad, and i havnt given it another thought since LOL.

It doesnt exactly taste bad, its just an awfully bitter taste for me

I don't find it too bad and can quite happily stomach it :)

Cranberry cordial covered up EAA's reasonably well, not perfect though. Give that a shot as it's cheaper than buying a flavouring powder. Failing that MP's Berry Blast will probaly do it. Got some coming next week so can let you know if it covers it if you like?

Just a suggestion!

I wasn't sure where to put this but seeing as there is this supplements thread wouldn't a food /diet thread be suitable too? If there isn't one already (I searched but couldn't find one)

There is a ton of information on supplements and with the gym rats and bodybuilding picture thread making me so jealous :P i was surprised to not find the food thread already.

Heh. I was actually thinking about that today. I'm up for us having a diet/ nutrition thread definitely.

It makes my MP TrueWhey shakes taste a little gritty and odd but it's not too bad! Like Benny said, it really does dominate DOMS!

I was thinking about this yesterday. I think we should have a OcUK recipes thread for weight trainers. Where the ONLY information allowed in there are peoples recipes i.e. No banter - to stop the recipes getting lost in the thread. What say you?

I think the diet thread would work if the OP eas constantly edited and had sections with recipies for eat meat/fish/vegetable etc. SO you'd have a load of links to each post for meals with Mackerel, Tuna, Chicken etc.

Otherwise you'd have to read the entire thread just to find a certain recipe!

I agree that it should be a replies only, perhaps the odd post commenting on whether it tasted good or not but none of this chit chat business :p

Edit: Be good if each post could contain the macro's of p/f/c for each meal.

Yeah definitely recipes and sort of a diet log section sounds perfect! Reading an entire 100 page thread to find something you want is never fun :p And specifically adding up P/F/C for each of the meals would certainly help those who are more careful than myself who pretty much eats just about anything!! So yes it sounds like a plan.

I might have been a bit selfish in the beginning, i was looking for information for my own dietary needs when i thought of the food/diet thread, I really should watch what i eat, hence the suggestion. And since turning 29 last year i am starting to loose my low body fat and gain a bit of pork which is NOT very welcome :o All down to my eat now and worry later attitude!

But that's another story :D

yeah if you wouldnt mind, heard all the hype and want to try it.

thanks!

No problem.

It's quite expensive, well I grabbed 50grams for like £4 but 250 grams was like £17 or so.

I'll let you know what I make of it and how much is needed to mask sufficiently etc
