Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Hi guys! This is pretty shameless, there is a competition that my local supplement shop is having to win some protein. In order to boost his likes on facebook.
Can people like his page; BodyXtreme Supplements and then write my name on the wall (martin collis). the person with the most names on the wall wins 2kg of protein.

Hope this doesn't break any rules!

Many Thanks
Martin Collis

In short, don't rely on shakes to diet down, sort out your diet first (ask for advice here as well if you need help) and diet down slowly, add in cardio if you want to, and obviously a weights routine if you want to go that route (it will probably be recommended by most here)

Eating/drinking a shake at lunchtime is not lunch :p

Thanks Delvis, this is really what a friend of mine recommended, and I wanted to get a better idea of what I should be doing from the people here.

I'm no diet expert, I got help from forum member on here.

But I've been cutting for the last few months, and my daily food is:

Morning: Oats with blueberries & 3 eggs on the side
Mid-Morning: Pita with half tin of tuna and good oil
Lunch: Rice with chicken (not a whole breast) and veg (asparagus, brocolli, spinage) and good oil
Mid-afternoon: Jacket potato with half tin of tuna and good oil
PWO: Whey shake with dextrose
Dinner: This varies, but its normally fish with sweet potato
Then before bed I take casein protein.

Seems like a lot (I take in 2/3 tubs to work :p) but I've dropped from about 92/3/4kg's to 82.4kg as of this morning :)

Naturally, it will depend on your own body and what it requires with regards to how much you need to be eating etc...But i'll try and find a link for you to a thread on here

EDIT: That's with gym 4 days a week and cardio after each session

I agree with all cept the last line. It depends on the shake, type and nutrients of course.

For instance I find drinking a shake for breakfast to be easier and better than sitting and eating one.

My breakfast is 100g powerdered oats, 25g Whey and 1 gram taurine.
Added tablets for extra vitamins, fats and minerals.

On the note of cardio, do it. It doesn't matter what type, or when. What matters is that you do it.

While I agree, I was more referring to his original post :) It practically says eat shakes and eat whey biscuits :p That I don't really agree with...But if it works and fits his daily needs then fair enough.

I could probably drink a powered oat shake in the morning with some blueberries blended in (hell, might try that one day, sounds AMAZING) but i've always preferred to eat.

When doing that, make sure you get Unflavoured whey, otherwise you'll ruin the flavour.

It really is amazing.

I swapped from normal meals to a shake in the morning because eating a 100g of oats with fruit just takes too long. Besides I'm too lazy to buy bigger bowls as Id need to eat two of these a morning then. I'm a slow eater

I don't think I'll ever change my breakfast really. I have:
500ml milk
1 scoop oats
3 scoops unflavoured protein
1 heaped teaspoon of glutamine
5g creatine
1 heaped teaspoon barley grass powder
Dose of rhodiola rosea (spelling? :))
3 level teaspoons of nesquick

I occasionally swap the oats for some eat-able carbs and I will maybe add some extra protein if I am feeling like I'll need it, and I'm going to be using water instead of milk from next week to see how that affects my weight.

Looking at it now it looks like a lot but it has built up over a few years so I hadn't noticed it :). It works very well for me whether I'm trying to lose weight or stay where I am.

Looks like a beefy shake dom, I go for 44g of myofusion (works out at 30g of protein) and 100g of fine oats, in water. 580 cals :)

What's are the benefits of barley grass and rhodiola?

I have absolutely not appetite in the morning so a shake upon waking is ideal.

Instead milk, have a look for Almond milk - it helps to control blood glucose, and it can increase the vitamin and mineral content in your diet. Also even though almond milk only contains 1 gram of protein per serving, it does contain B Vitamins(riboflavin), which helps muscle growth and repair

Bad skin? Why would it give you bad skin? Are you intolerant to anything?

In short, I guess there is Pea protein, or Whey isolate (costs more)...There are a few other options that slip my mind currently

Barley grass, is an anti-oxidant but I also use it to provide some of the vits and mins that green veg provides just to get an extra boost. I can definitely notice when I'm taking it I tend to just feel a bit fresher, it's not too expensive either so I'm sticking with it for now. It also seems to help me recover slightly.

Rhodiola rosea is to my understanding a cortisol inhibitor. It helps to lower stress levels and help the body deal with physical stress as well. So, helps recovery a bit and improves mod now and then :). It also gives a little energy boost after taking but nothing to make it worth using for that reason. MP don't sell it any more but I bought 100g for £16, I think, about a year ago and it's still going :).

This:

Acts very similarly to RR but it is a little more potent. Again very expensive but that will last a very very long time.
