Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Protein is not the answer. Part, sure, but not by itself.

You need more fat and more carbs.

Try swapping out the snack fruit for nuts of some description.

And what do you need the HMB for?

Protein by itself sure is not the answer, I'll look to increase my in-take across the board.

I was hoping to use the protein/gain shakes while I was at work - between breakfast and lunch and possibly between lunch and dinner.

I saw a few articles and bulk powders recommending the HMB to stimulate muscle growth and recovery?

Just stick with the basics to start with. Protein is obviousely very important, and can be inconvenient/expensive to get enough from foods, so go with the sup if you feel you need it. Good carbs and fats should be much easier to get from normal foods.

jeez i need a kick before gym, what pre-workouts do you lot use? since i train after work im a bit sleepy so something that gives a good kick to wake me up would be great, there's a tone of them to choose from but what is the "to get" pre-workout? - i guess thats hard to answer, but anything you lot got to recommend from your own experiences?

Worth dropping the HMB for the time being then and just going for the mass/protein/oats and seeing how it goes?

Definitely drop the HMB, the difference it makes, if any, will be immeasurable. As for the protein, mass and oats, they’re just more convenient forms of food, so if you feel you want to add them to your diet rather than adjusting your entire diet, then go for it.

The only sups I use are protein, multivits, and omega fish oils, that's it.

Okay, will look into getting some supplements during the week.

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

i did, caffeine in general has very little effect on me for some reason, this was the first thing i've tried :)

It's not a supplement in the traditional sense but I know quite a few people who like to have a banana before they go to the gym. How well it works I don't know but then I'm not a fan of bananas in general so I'm not all that likely to try it...

Best pre-workout I have ever used is 9 Tesco chocolate doughnuts as backload primer, followed by a roast, then eight hours good sleep.

Hit the gym like a ******* train.

Still couldn't lift for toffee, but I felt awesome. :D

might give it a shot tbh, i've been eating bananas before cycling to get some extra energy so it might work before gym too.

Cellucor c4 works for me.

thanks will take a look.

I used to dose with 300mg of caffeine, brotein and carbs before a workout. The only thing that actually made any difference to my lifts was getting a decent night's sleep and eating pretty much everything I could find.

I know 8hrs sleep a night is not something that's trendy nowadays, but the difference a decent night's sleep made for me and my gainz was quite startling.

the funny thing is i sleep 7-8 hours every night so that is never a problem, i guess i just waste my energy by cycling to and from work, so i need to get a nice 1kish cals in me before workout. Ill try a few different things for the next couple of weeks and see what works for me. :)

Either that... or eat more. ;) :D
