Because you can get more calories from mixtures containing complex carbs than simple carbs. Or rather more useful calories.

Can't remember the figures exactly but its something like a mixture of 6% simple carbs compared to 15% for complex carbs in terms of osmolality. So complex carb solutions good for long distance cycling (where I want calories) and simple carbs for running when I really don't want to be taking on much.

Being in the saddle for a 5 hour century (well ok, 112 miles) requires a lot of food!

Indeed you do. Unfortunately the logistics of laying on feed stations for a training century at least once a month is somewhat beyond my meagre financial means :(. Plus, tbh, I don't really like gels, and its fairly important to eat/drink stuff you actually like.

Better off drinking pure coconut oil :cool:

If only it were stomachable ;).

Wow, ordered those TPW protein bars and free whey yesterday afternoon, got the tracking number from YODEL (yes YODEL) i didnt pay next day it was 3-5 days with Yodel.. anyway its on its way to my door according to there tracking system .. thats less than 24 hours and Yodel usually take it round the world and back first.. i hope there tracking is right, if it turns up today then TPW have so far exceeded my expectations.
