Cherry Bakewell was fantastic for pancakes when me, BennyC and MoNkeE used it last month. Vanilla is always a safe bet flavour though, I've found any company that offers Vanilla usually does a good job with it

Enjoy the £7.50 referal :)

Ordered the Flapjack bars, a Cookie sample bar to boost it over £10 for the free 250g Vanille Creme whey. Not bad to try in pancakes for free.
also used TSN10 which i found somewhere and it removed 0.19p lol no idea what it actually did that for .. £13.09 for the lot :) Thanks

Does anyone know of a complex carb powder like Carbo Pro (can't get it outside the UK)? It's pretty much 100% complex carbs with no taste, perfect for getting in calories on long distance rides/runs? But importantly with no other crap in it.

Would something like Maltodextrin do?

Out of interest, why do you want complex carbs for during exercise?

In theory yes, but completely neutral taste and good at mixing is what Carbo Pro does so well, in practice I will probably buy some from myprotein and experiment.

As its an easy way to takein calories up for the bike leg of an Ironman, or a 6 hour ride for example, without having to eat too much and get bloated. I already make my own energy drinks and could just add more maltodextrin to them.

What's the advantage over simple carbs though?

Well on a structural level, simple carbs contain little nutrional value compared to complex carbs structure of fibre, vits, minerals etc. Complex carbs also replace/top up your glycogen levels, simple carbs don't.

Yes simple carbs provide energy, but you don't really want to be consuming lots of them, and in the case of an Ironman I'd find them a hell of a lot more useful on the run than the bike. So, I'd rather try and get my calories elsewhere. Naturally I will be eating bars/food as well, but the less solid food I can get away with eating the better.

Yes youre quite right, ignore that bit. But the complex carbs are going to be beneficial for several hours in the saddle.

I essentially want to get a lot of useful calories into the drinks so I can carry less food.

I essentially want to cram is as many (useful) calories into a drink as possible.

Other than not having to be as strict with the frequency, I don't see the advantage.

Because you can get more calories from mixtures containing complex carbs than simple carbs. Or rather more useful calories.

Can't remember the figures exactly but its something like a mixture of 6% simple carbs compared to 15% for complex carbs in terms of osmolality. So complex carb solutions good for long distance cycling (where I want calories) and simple carbs for running when I really don't want to be taking on much.

Being in the saddle for a 5 hour century (well ok, 112 miles) requires a lot of food!
