Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I've put protein powder in my porridge before. I put it in after it was cooked though and mixed it in. Mixed quite well but I'd only do it with certain flavours myself.

MyProtein have some half price bundles on until midnight.

Seem pretty decent too as long as you need the products in them.

£31.73 for me for 2.5kg Hurricane XS, 2.5kg Instant Oats, 90 ZMA Tablets and 250g Beta Alanine.

Admittedly I haven't use Beta Alanine before but the protein, Instant Oats and ZMA are things I've used before.

Evening all,

I've put myself on a diet and am having smoothies for breakfast every morning. A friend of mine said that I could do with putting some protein in them as I'm starting to exercise. Currently I tend to put in water, wheatgrass powder, spinach, berries, a banana, and some kale.

If anyone could recommend me a nice natural protein powder for these, I'd appreciate it. Are the hemp ones any good? They appeal to me for some reason :p

From what I know the hemp protein doesn't taste very nice. That said it may have other benefits, unsure.

I'd personally just pick up a bag from any of the bulk suppliers in unflavoured as you don't seem fussed on flavour putting spinach and kale in them. :p

Why didnt you just buy some whey protein?
Any reason for buying Soy protein?
Also, with regards to vegetables - I buy frozen, boil lots of greens and eat with some meat/fish. Mixed with some butter, green vegetables become very tasty (if you want to eat them on their own).

I'm guessing that due to his mention of both hemp protein and soy protein he's doesn't eat or consume meat/animal produce.

Has anyone else tried hemp protein?

I started taking 20g a day, around 3 weeks ago, but the nausea is terrible and I'm about to give up on it.
I have reduced my daily intake to 10g, but I still feel sick. It's definitely the protein powder, as if I stop using it, the next day I'll feel fine. Is it just a case of my body getting used it?

I've not tried whey or any other protein supplements, mainly as my research lead me to believe that hemp was far superior.

No, it obviously doesn't agree with you for some reason.

Hemp is in no way superior, your research sources are not good. Supplementing 20g a day is pretty much pointless too, you might as well eat a small chicken breast.

Lawd.

I imagine the only reason he's doing that is due to Veganism, as I don't know why you'd otherwise bother when you have whey available.

Speaking of protein supplementation, can an excess of protein increase your urination frequency? I'm expecting it does, as it gets discarded by your kidneys in to your urine, but I'm wondering if enough of an excess will trigger more urination than usual.

20g a day was just to get me started, I had planned to increase my intake when the nausea stopped.

It also begs the question, why are you supplementing protein?

To be a little bit more helpful, the reasons people should be taking protein supplements include:

- cost (it's cheaper than meat)
- convenience and general ease of hitting your required amount of daily protein
