Supplements the debate/discussion thread

10lbs of what?

That supplement is nothing special at all. At the absolute most it could have contributed to an extra pound of fat being burned purely by making you train a bit harder for a bit longer. Nothing a strong black coffee wouldn't have achieved though.

If you lost 10lb of fat, which is what I'm assuming you're thinking, then you did that yourself, it wasn't that supplement.

read up, I didn't change anything

So you basically took expensive supplements which is basically just caffeine and green tea... So all it will be is making you have a bit more of a thermogenic state which can be achieved through diet tweaking for a lot less money.

I love how people think legal fat burners are miracles....

CBL taught me a few things and changed my view on carbs entirely. It also pushed my bowels to the limit and taught me I don't want to spend my whole evening eating carbs.

I still eat about 80% of my carbs PWO and use an IIFYM approach occasionally too.

If it comes in a fancy tub and empties your wallet in the blink of an eye then obviously it's magic beans!

Well, if his aim is to lose weight.
And by spending £30 (or whatever it costs), he achieved this.
That's money well spent, in my book. Regardless of what the ingredients are.

I do agree that he could've achieved the same result, by buying pro-plus and green tea from Tesco BUT, the goal was achieved.

There is a huge placebo effect which occurs when taking pills, which is why the pill must not be seen for its ingredients, but it must be seen for the ultimate result it achieves.

Take a look at this thread.
The fitbit was used by the user to lose a huge percentage of body weight.
The fitbit in itself, doesnt lose the weight.
It merely creates a focal point.

A friend of mine stated that his ipod helped lose weight.
He used to go running with his ipod and it motivated him to go running.
Without the ipod, he simply didnt go running.

You can't compare using fitbit with some pills. One is a sensible use of technology to enhance what you're trying to achieve, the other one is a con.

I use to take protein powder, now i'm off it. I been through Whey, Casein & hemp. The whey protein eventually got to me with the artificial sweetener. Sucralose was giving me bad headaches. Eventually i changed to hemp protein instead, it kind of tasted bad but it just grows on you, i would always blend it with a banana and oats.

I started on hemp after hearing Joe Rogan suggest it on his podcast saying it's much easier on the digestive system, no doubt people will tell you it's just another expensive marketing gimmick though.

If you have issues with lactose etc and can't meet your protein requirements through other foods then there's nothing wrong with obtaining dietary protein from other powders.

I find a lot of the pre-flavoured whey sickly so buy unflavoured and add in cal-free flavouring myself, cheapest approach for someone that doesn't have any intolerance issues.

I bought some whey protein from TPW.
Chocolate Silk.
Not great. Not impressed.
I also bought some flavourings - Maple syrup and Chocolate fudge.
I added some choc fudge the protein and the flavour got better.
I havent tried Maple Syrup yet.

In summary:
Chocolate Silk - definitely not worth the money (better to buy unflavoured and add your own flavouring)
Choc Fudge flavouring - 5/5. Enough said.

I think I've been spoiled by using better tasting proteins.
I've drank many brands and used many flavouring systems, hence TPW was always going to struggle to compete.

Today, I had another glass of TPW Chocolate Silk.
I wasnt impressed.
I am having to add the chocolate fudge flavouring to it, to make it drinkable.
Here are some alternatives which decimate TPW's chocolate silk.

My shake of choice right now is:
1 scoop Olympus Protein (toffee or chocolate flavour)
half scoop unflavoured whey protein
lots of water
1 squirt MP toffee flavouring
taste/texture scores 8/10.

Another shake (higher in fat though, but tastes like a real milkshake)
1 scoop Olympus Protein (cookies and cream)
half scoop unflavoured whey protein
lots of water
2 tablespoons cream
taste/texture scores 9/10.

Something simple:
2 scoops unflavoured whey.
less water
toffee liquid flavouring.
taste/texture scores 8/10.

TPW Chocolate Silk
with water (nothing else added)
taste/texture scores 5/10

with chocolate fudge flavouring
taste/texture scores 6/10.

I will try adding some MP toffee flavouring next time.

In all cases, water was used and the powder was blended by a hand held electric blender I bought for about £10 in argos (this device is a must in any kitchen).

20 years ago, TPW's chocolate flavour would've been fine. But in 2014, with so many rival brands, they are in a tough market. Without doubt, they are over-priced, by some 20% or thereabouts. There are cheaper and better tasting alternatives. I'm not sure why anybody would want to buy from TPW unless they are getting a 20%+ discount.

I do rate TPW choc fudge flavouring: 5/10.
I also have TPW maple syrup flavouring, but have yet to try that.

One thing I did notice is TPW's branding.
Their packaging.
Their boxing.
Their colour scheme.
Very impressive.
BUT when buying health foods, I care about 2 things:
product quality (inc taste) and
price.
I can't eat the packaging, hence I can't give them any additional marks for their branding.

TL:DR wall of text.

It's just a whey protein, it's down the hatch in less than 10 seconds. For me Chocolate Silk tastes fine and I'm sure it does for many others too.

If you are that concerned with taste then I don't know why you don't just buy/eat real food PWO, if cost is not an issue.

You need to try TPW Cherry Bakewell.
