Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Just for some discussion, ive also used creatine before.

Definately going to go back to it when the weights get heavy enough on my 5x5 routine. I was able to lift for more reps. Didnt really make me stronger by much, but it allowed me to get the extra 2-3 reps (the ones that count) which I otherwise wouldnt of been able to.

Made me look fuller as well. Would definately reccomend it if your looking for that bit more.

I use creatine for big volume training - so when I do my second run of AGVT. I find it does create water retention but this isn't bad, with big volumes as it helps keeps the joints lubricated and generally helps keeps the muscles fuller which helps recovery and performance - but it's quite a mild subtle effect but it's noticeable if you're aware of how your body responds.

For high volume I just find I can do that extra few sets whereas normally I'd just be ready to cry. :D

Sounds interesting. Might do the same when I do GVT again too. I was thinking about using a pump supplement in conjunction but I don't want to hinder my ability to train from crippling pumps!

I don't really get on with pump supplements, but good quality creatine well loaded/dosed does give increased pumps as part of the process as is draws more blood to the tissues. Creatine seems to have more of an effect on me latetly as I don't eat as much red meat as I used to (it's a treat I have once a week or so) as I tend to eat fish and chicken and eggs, seeds, nuts and pulses and beans for my sources of protein. If you have a high red meat diet you may find it makes little odds to you.

well, most websites say you do :p
quick google results
:http://www.leanbodies.net/articles/feature/creatine.html
http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/creatine.htm

and mind you, even if it's not just red meat, eating 1kg of meat(any type, fish included) per day is a bit too much even for heavier people (I weigh about 16 stone, although I have no trouble with 500grams in 2 meals, twice as much wouuld be a pain, not to mention the costs associated with eating just red meat...)

so i'm wondering how would a 10 stone individual get his 5gams daily just from food?

I mean it might be possible, but is it really worth it doing it that way?

I've eaten 500grams of minced beef with 300 grams of mixed veg as a meal. I still do sometimes. Takes a lot to fill me up. But I deffinatley wouldn't want to be doing it every day!

MY point was creatine often stores itself, and to deplete it takes a lot of hard work (i.e. the gym) so supplementing it can help keep your performance up, however in general most people don't work hard enough to need to - this doesn't go for the likes of you or other the big lifters here. It's just a general point of advice. :)

Just to bring this back, I'm having a crack at a new stack

Benny06, on your rec. I've got hold of some VMax Pump! Cant wait to have a go with it. N.O. X-Plode was great until halfway through the tub, it still gave pumps but the buzz was gone and I was using 2.5 scoops so no value for money at all IMO.

Im going to start using Vassive-C5 (by optimum nutrition), basically its like BSN Cellmass (CEE and Arginine mainly) but cheaper. Have that post workout, then 30 mins later my post workout shake.

Apparantly with CEE products its not necessary to 'load' the creatine, like you do with Creating Mono. Anyone heard of this?

From reading a few articles I'm happy with how much this is costing me, and how to take it as I'll only be taking the VMax and Vassive on lifting days (3 days a week), with all the bumpf behind it all and reading about I should still see benefits instead of loading creatine the old school way.

Good stuff. Remember it's effects and 'potentness' may last longer/shorter on you than it did me.

The good thing about pump supplements is that you only need to take it on a training day so my tub lasted well over a month, nearer to 7/8 weeks.

Let me know how you get on.

Edit: What flavour did you get? I had berry blast and it was liek drinking sweet tangy sherbert but was quite nice. I found as I progressed through the tub either I got used to it or the flavour faded. It's like sucking a lemon to begin with!

Will do matey, got the Lemon Crush I think, blasted thing hasnt arrived yet though :( Guess that really will be like sucking on a lemon haha!

I hope this Vassive-C5 is good for recovery, as that will be used on training days only also that should also last me ages!

The only other advice (I can't remember if you've used a pump supplement before) is to stick to what you've planned to do that session/routine.

I was training a body part a day but with no set routine and found I did insane amounts of normal stuff and then LOADS of dropsets because I had the energy and wasn't burnt out or tired. It was counter productive and over training. I got an insane pump. So dropsets are good for that but don't expect to be tired by the end of it. Your muscles fatigue but your mind doesn't.

Edit:

Need to get my hands on some Superpump 250 :)

Yeah do remember that from the NO X-Plode, luckily my gym buddy and I have a plan and we kinda stick to it. I hear Superpump is pretty damn good!

Yeah, it's not got a few things that the V-max has but gets really good reviews. Hopefully it works on me. I have another tub of V-max but want to try superpump!

Their marketing for it is ridiculous. Watch the trailer on youtube, there's some absolute beefcake using it and it has lines like 'Lowerbody fat after just one use!'. Typical american marketing!

LOL yeah just saw that, BSN go over the top with the Ronnie Coleman 'hosepipe' veins with no xplode also!

I think superpump is so big because its a US product, heavily marketed, and while probably good, a lot of the stuff I seem to read up on bodybuilding is based in the US.

Edit - doesnt the BF% just drop while the pump is on as the muscles are larger while pumped? lol

I think bodyfat and mass will still be at the same levels. But just the pump will give the leaner image. I'll let you know if I suddenly drop 2-3% :p

PAz:

If I'm honnest I don't get a 'great' nights sleep when I'm at home. I just don't feel like I've been in a really deep sleep. Though I normally use earplugs to drown out my flatmates and I've much comfier bedding at uni. However once I'm asleep im out cold until the morning when I wake up naturally and then wait for my alarm.

I'm back from Friday so can let you know if I notice any difference though I do usually get an amazing nights sleep quite often at uni without the aid ZMA.

I've felt a little bit more horny and gotten slightly hairer but that could be because of the cold. And some of my dreams have been quite vivid. It could all just be in my head.

Though at £13 for 50 days worth it's really not expensive.

Sorry I can't be of more help :(
