Suzuka Circuit -JAPANESE Grand Prix 2009 - Race 15/17

Kimi looks good but I think its vettels race now :(

:)

Hammy is looking good for the first corner with KERS, with Kimi making a spot or two as well. If Vettel wins, it should bring the WDC alive!

To be fair Brawn just have themselves to blame, they sat out most of practice, and most of Q3, this is the result, oh and their drivers ignored a yellow.

Alonso is funny, I think he might have got a grid drop for passing Buemi under yellows, which is what he originally went to the stewards to explain.

With so many crashes in quali it was virtually impossible to do more than one run (in q2) any way

Button (and I think Rubens) where out both times red flags came out - but yes of course "they set out most of quali so deserved the penalties"

what a **** stupid comment

Buemi gets the same punishment even though his was a worse offence

I still dont get how cars can be rebuilt and still take the same qualifying spot even though they wrecked it (Rubens benefitted last race, Kovi this one)

Its also harsh where car/driver combo's where blatantly faster than another who didnt even set a time in certain quali, yet they are higher in the grid

(if x person gets into q3 then at worst they should start at place 10, unless their car needs work /rebuilt - to have someone who doesnt even set a time several places higher on the grid is BS)

Trulli will go pretty short, and I would be surprised if Hamlton cant get past him pretty quickly with KERS, so its Vettel vs Hamilton for the win - with Kimi maybe aiming for 3rd

Rubens and Jenson will be lucky to get a few points (although from similar positions Jenson outraced Rubens so that could easily happen again tomorrow)

They deserved the penalties because they did not slow down for yellow flags. Kudos to Ross for saying so straight off that his drivers had not slowed down. It had nothing to do with the red flags!

Plus they did sit out the practice sessions and hence didn't have time to develop the car. Maybe they were scared of sticking it in the wall, who knows. Either way you either save your tyres and go for the one run, if you get a yellow on that lap your a goner, which is exactly what happened.

Regardless of when the red flags were, what other runs they had done, or wether they had sat out the whole session up to then, you simply CANNOT go full throttle flat out through a yellow flag zone. There could be marshals on the trask, a car on the racing line round a blind bend, anything. Safety rightly so takes priority, so while its unlucky they all only had one run, the penalties were inevitable.

The issue, once again, is that everyone and there dog knew that there would probubly be penalties for these laps, yet the FIA made no notification that they were going to investigate them during the program, and then hours later change the results. Atleast let us know if your going to investigate something, and make the decisions faster!

Huh? How did Kova end up down in 13th?

Hamilton and Vettel are looking pretty for this one, but you've got to think Vettel has the edge with a faster car and a better fuel load.

But the overall result still looks like it will go Button's way. Yeah, Vettel may pick up a win but even if he wins every race from here it's very unlikely he'll win. Rubens is his only real challenger and he'll be lucky to walk away with more than a couple of points from this.

... Safety rightly so takes priority ...
Unless you drive out of the pits with one wheel coming off your wagon, decide to keep going, happen to be named Teflonso and happen to drive for a team that is commercially important to the F1 rights owner; or happen to be that commercially important team and instruct one of your drivers to drive into a wall to help the other gain some points and money ;)

That was probably the most interesting qualifying session this year. I'm not going to say much more as it's all been said already.

Race winner prediction is Hamilton, as much as I'd like to see Vettel win and this come championship start to come down to the wire, I don't think he has the balls yet, no offence! Though I might be one of the few who'd like to see Barrichello win over Button too.

Vettel has a great track record when he starts from pole position. When Button beat Vettel (when Vettel was on pole), Button had a faster race car. On this occassion, Red Bull appear to have the faster race car.

My money would be on Vettel...unless Hamilton can do something VERY special.

I really like Vettel but I couldn't see him as Champion this year - it would just feel wrong. It just hasn't felt like he's been 'there' all season, champing at the bit and going for it... hard to explain really but he just doesn't seem like a viable 'winner' yet.

You're right. Its hard to put a finger on why..
