To be fair that means nothing. We would bring back hanging with a massive majority if there was a referendum,
Also the following things would likely get voted in a referendum
Corporal punishment for kids
National Service
Hunting banned
Scotland leave the Union
NI merge with Eire
Cornwall self governing
Yorkshire have its own Parliament
etc
Just cause something would win in a referendum doesnt mean its a good thing.
We should ban it though. In a 1st world nation women shouldn't be oppressed and forced to dress up like ninjas. It's time for Islam to join the current millenium.
True but there are plenty members of parliament who follow Islam. E.g. The current Mayor of London.

Problem is how many of them don’t want to wear one but are forced to.
Anyway, any ban would be impossible to enforce in places like Tower Hamlets and Newham. Too many to police, and a lot of them insist on following sharia law and don’t recognise our laws.
We have the 21st century clashing with the 1st. Other religions got rid of this kind of thing long ago.
Like the Swiss, French etc, we need to set our own laws as a secular country and they can like it or leave.
As has been said in this thread (and I’m sure I’ve read something similar. Lots choose to wear it themselves. You don’t stop somebody from doing something by forcing them to do another thing. If they want to wear it based on archaic traditions, you need to educate, inform and give them equal opportunities.

This is Islam we’re talking about. There is no reform. It is flat out rejected.
Don't really see a problem with this ruling. These countries don't have sand storms that ravage the land meaning people (women mostly) would typically wear them to protect their mouths/eyes etc.
Plus, ttese items of clothing have been made to become a thing women must wear in public over time by man and isn't something commanded by any major religion anyway. It's come to a point where it's become a fashion accessory but question it and you get labelled a racist or someone gets offended because wearing it is part of religion (when it isn't, see earlier!).
It's like that old saying, you tell a lie long enough and people start to be convinced it's actually all true.

What about those women who want and choose to wear a face covering as part of there religious observance? You would ban this and thus oppress there freedom of expression through the power of the state what would a ban on religious face coverings achieve that is worth such an invasion?
It is not a requirement of any religion to wear them. Man made it a requirement in some interpretations of religion and it has since become a practice ruled by strict law in those parts of the world with a growing following slowly (minus the law) drifting around various counties. Again this is a thing due to lack of education and knowledge of people who dare not question their local authorities because -reasons-.

Not at all, but if they refuse to reform and stop the oppression of women, then it’s not right for us to remain implicit in that oppression.
