T-Mobile HSPDA - 380KBPS?

I moved from O2 to T-Mobile a while ago and have noticed that the HSPDA speeds are shocking compared to what I used to get with O2.

With full bars of HSPDA I get about 380kbps on speed tests on T-Mob as a pose to around 2Mbps I had with O2.

I read on the internet that the speed is capped sometimes so I called up T-mobile to complain and try to get them switch it over but they seem to have no clue what I'm talking about. They were trying to pin this on signal issues, and the fact that my phone can't handle the speed(which I contested consdering I have a SGS) and said that they were still 'working' on the HSPDA network.

I've read on the web that some people have been able to get the 380kbps cap removed so I did mention this but they still had no clue.

I asked to speak to a manager so will get a callback soon. Anyone know what I can do or say to remove this cap?

Total pot luck, keep hassling them until they remove it.

I'm assuming you didn't buy it from them directly, otherwise they should remove it with no issues.

Yeah I think that's it.

Now you just need someone with a brain that can enable it for you free of charge.

you need web and walk +, check if thats what your contract came with. When I got my contract with t-mobile direct it was web n walk + with 2GB cap but it was only running at the standard 300kbps as well. I had a long conversation with CS who were only doing the silly things like network reset tests, reinsert sim. In the end i got my girlfriends phone who had the same phone on the same plan and said look her phone runs at 1950kbps and im on 300kbps and they eventually said oooo yeah your web and walk + isnt enabled DUH. so they will try and pull a fast one but I had enough proof, by means of getting my GF to confirm her account so they could crosscheck the settings  was a right pain in the ***

Doh! Been going back and forward on twitter to T-mob support.

Final word was : Hi X, our systems changed in Feb this year and we are unable to add on HSDPA for free. Sorry

And this is why I avoided T-Mobile when I was getting a Galaxy S2. Speeds were great with them on my HTC Hero, but that was a direct contract.

They won't help you on Twitter, you need to call and hassle them, then call again, and again, ask to speak to managers, etc.

Just had a manager ring me. She wasn't too sure what I was getting at either, she said there were no problems on my account, I don't think she understood the concept of data rate, although she said she will follow up with the tech team and call me back tomorrow.

they always give you that old line, keep at it. having said that tho I'm sure there is prob somthing saying any contract brought via 3rd party unless stated otherwise will be on the 3g 380Kbps cap. but not sure on that.

They "accidently" turned HSDPA off on my contract, it took 2 months of phone calls until the turned web & walk plus back on:mad:

ye it sucks like I said I had to actually get my gf to confirm her account then pass over to me then confirm my account then they went over all the settings and said yeah urs hasnt got web n walk + enabled.... ENABLE IT THEN?? bloody useless these people. and that was after the million and one possible problems it could be, no its u havnt enabled this. have you tried re entering your apn? ARGH

As has been said already just keep trying them.

I got my SGS2 from third-party on T-Mobile and I had my speed un-capped in just 2 calls, maybe I was just lucky but they were very helpful, just pot luck I guess.

I've now got this problem having just received my Sensation. Do you reckon I'll have more luck going into a T-Mobile store? Or will they just fob me off to CS? I might have to quote the distance selling regulations and, in the worse case, return the phone and go to another provider.

i have two identical phones one with web n walk plus and one standard.

You can notice no difference in browsing etc.

Only difference is in speed tests.

This might be different of course on newer phones models than can handle the data more efficiently perhaps?

when my desire was on standard 350kbps the pages wouldnt load only very basic sites. It was awful.

Well, you WOULD notice a difference, so you're doing something wrong.

What phones are they?
