T-Mobile HSPDA - 380KBPS?

i have two identical phones one with web n walk plus and one standard.

You can notice no difference in browsing etc.

Only difference is in speed tests.

This might be different of course on newer phones models than can handle the data more efficiently perhaps?

When I was on 350kb it was horrible, really love youtube and it took forever to load anything on it when it finally did load would just keep stopping. on web it was so slow pages would take up to 50 seconds to load.

Now im on 2mb and its great life is so much better.

The difference is between night and day - PING is lower, download speed is much much faster and upload speed is faster.

Other than just for emails EVERY person will notice an impact. Try to download an app, try to browse the web, try to upload a photo to facebook etc - it's all noticeable.

Got my contract last week, and I just kept ringing them over and over 9even though they denied there was an issue and they don't cap us!).

Eventually I managed to get one of the guys to put me through to tech support - who lifted it - They didn't put me on Web n walk tarrif so it has nothing to do with that - I'm getting full 2MB download now as opposed to capped 360kb.

check the sensation thread for the hoo-haa I had to go through, usually helps if you can threaten to return the phone and look at other service providers ;)

Ive got a gs2 from tmobile and from day one ive had hspda at around 1.5 meg sometimes even higher from day one :\

Why would some people get it and some not, seems stupid

On the phone now...sounds like a foreign call centre. He really had no clue and thought I was a mug...he's putting me through to technical support now.

AHHHHHHHH

Does anyone have any tips with what to say?

got mine changed in one phone call back in November, Thing is i never noticed a difference because in stoke on trent the data connection is rubbish and i basically ony just get 3g connection speeds!

Finally! It's done! After speaking to a standard customer service advisor he put me through to Internet technical support. A really, really friendly and helpful lad instantly knew what I was talking about and i was in fact on the uncapped data rate package but there was a configuration error. Sorted it in a flash and even said he would call me tomorrow evening to see if I was happy.

Ive just got a sim only deal with the internet booster direct from t mobile and its capped to 350kbps. Very annoying, which number should I call and any tips to get it sorted ?

Install speedtest.net app. Take readings when connected via HSDPA. You'll always get 0.35mbps.

Make sure the readings are an hour apart each and from multiple locations. Record the locations too.

Put all this in an excel file then call T-mobile techinical support. Don't accept any of their bull, get an email address off them (they're not meant to give them out, but they did in my case) then email them the results of the test.

A engineer should then take a look.

Just out of interest for those in the know.

I just did a speed test on my Orange San Fransisco (full signal HSDPA) and got these results:

Ping 323ms
Download 1173kbps
Upload 373kbps

Does that look right?

Regarding speed being the same on 3G & HSDPA, a HSDPA connection is not necessarily faster than a 3G connection. Firstly due to cell usage, there may only be 300kbps or less for you to have at that time.

The difference may not be like "night and day" as phones will usually switch between HSDPA and 3G at will depending on the bandwith you are requesting. Browsing some websites your phone may only stay at 3G speeds. But as a speedtest downloads a lot of data it will be switched to HSDPA regardless.

True, but when every single speed test done using the same sim in different phones and different locations always results in a download of 0.35mpbs then something is clearly awry.

Some of which were even tested standing next to a dedicated t-mobile UTMS mast

@Cheetahdesigns - your results looks ok depending on your signal. You're getting over 1Mbps

I get no more than 37kbps on 3g and 1950Kbps on HSPDA thats been the same everywhere I go. I only seem to get 3g and H so when it switches to 3g surfing the web is painful. :(
