Tabletop Warhammer?

Are they any particular colour that you use, I’ve never been into halfords for paint so I would want to get the right one, I was looking at doing grey rather than black and white.

Ive started my chaos with black undercoat but I might do my Dark Eldar in grey? or should I stick with black?

stick with Black

Shas'o seem ok but probably better using Shield Drones than the Shield Generator. Running them between the Shas'o and the enemy allows them to absorb the fire first using their 4+ and if it fails they take the wound rather than the commander. Less useful in close combat but he should not be there anyway.

For the Crisis Suits, leave the burst cannon and take more plasma. Fireknife suits (Plasma, Missile and Multi) are pretty much a catch all suit. They can move 12", Fire both weapons and then move 2d6" in assault phase to get out of range or behind cover. If you need more S5 AP5 then take more Firewarriors.

Twin linked flamers are good but I prefer running either TL Fusion + Plasma and deep striking for tank hunting or I go with TL Missile Pod's and target locks. S7 pods are fairly competent at knocking out light vehicles leaving yoru railguns for the harder stuff.

Don't bother with a Skyray. Take a couple of Broadsides instead. Broadside with TL Railgun, Smart Missiles and Multi-trackers are good for punching holes in armour or knocking out flyers. Land a S10 AP1 hit on a flyer and its lucky to get away and will at least take a hull point. Smart missiles are good too for this as volume of fire helps to win even without Skyfire.

I just written up a decent TAU 1500pts list, tell me if you guys think its good, i think its pretty impressive for the points :) (not got the codex at hand as im at work lol)

HQ

Shas'o with stimulant injection, Shield generator, plasma rifle, Missile pod, Multi tracker

Elites

1st Squad of 3 Battlesuits
All have missile pods & Burst Cannons (all have Multi-trackers)

2nd Squad of 3 Battlesuits

Team leader has fail safe

Troops

5 Squads of 12 fire warriors (60 fire warriors in total)

Heavy Support

Well in 6th edition, Target locks don't exist anymore, shame as well. And the broadside i thought the railguns were less in strenght or am i thinking of pathfinders with railguns lol

The best part of this list is the shear number of fire warriors im using, all rapid fire shots, hold the line type of defence, which TAU are perfect for imo :D

But im going to take a few things on board as you made some valid points in choices, cheers dude

Target locks do exist. Were removed in 1 FAQ and then added back in on the next one. Target Locks allow a model to fire a weapon at a different target. Love them on my Tetra's for spreading markerlights around or Broadsides for hitting a few vehicles per turn.

Broadsides are the S10 AP1 72" range ones which hurt people. Pathfinders have the little ones :)

Insta-death characters with Broadsides as anything T5 or lower without Eternal Warrior is screwed. Remember in 6th edition any character that rolls a 6 benefits from "Precision Shots" so roll a different coloured dice for your Shas'vre Broadside and snipe out their sergeant or embedded IC.

If playing Tau you do not want a static gunline. They don't actually do well at it. What they do well at is moving around and being hard to hit whilst putting out good amounts of fire.

If you stay still you will end up in close combat and then you will end up dead.

Really?! that's interesting as im sure there were no update to mention about target locks not existing anymore..that does change a lot thanks :D and the good thing about rapid fire in 6th Ed is that you can move 6 inches and still fire rapid shots up to full range, well if my memory serves me well in which at the moment it probably does not :P lol

Yes you can move and rapid fire. With Plasma on a suit you can move 12", rapid fire and then still move 2D6" in the assault phase as they have relentless so can assault after firing rapid fire :)

Forgive my ignorance if this has come already, but can you strip paint off miniatures and start again effectively? I did locate my stash at the parents this weekend but a lot of the early space marines were very thick coated and crap and would like to practice on them again. Is it do-able?

Soak in Dettol for a few hours and brush off using and old toothbrush with bristled cut down. Then rinse in warm soapy water and dry off. It should remove most if not all of the old paint.

Yep, I actually used nail varnish (it was all I could find) recently and that worked ok.

Cool, I'll be raiding the OH's make up bag later then and attacking some toothbrushes. Keep asking myself how the hell did I afford all this when I was 13 though...

Make sure you pay attention to the bold, the dettol will turn the residue into a sticky gloop on the miniature if you dont use soapy water.
