Tabletop Warhammer?

I will play a friendly on friday if you fancy? I am not in the league as I dont have the free time to commit to it :)
Plus I watched you last week so I know your tricks :P

Shami is watching everyone at the moment and taking note of the tricks :P

Of course he is also providing valuable advice to both players but this is not the point

He gave me some good pointers for my DE since this army is completey new so fingers crossed I can get some points in the league - Just 1 point will do I dont want to loose every game haha but I know I also need to adjust my army a little (mandrakes) *cough* *cough*

It's good to get everyone to a good level, we've all got different levels of experience and a thrashing isn't really fun for either player. The best games are the close ones.

I'm already thinking about Season 2, has anyone got any suggestions for rules/format changes so far? I'm thinking maybe some sort of handicap for players that finish lower down in season 1, rolling on a table before a battle for a random bonus, similar to combat drugs?

lucky I'm happy to do a friendly, maybe 2000 points? I might try Eldar.

I agree whole heatedly about close games being the best, Both of mine have been nail biters and have been amazing.

I'd prefer 6 edition with no fliers :P but I think that is a whole other can of worms.

A point increase to 2000 to allow a wider variety of units/combinations?

A Handicap for the lower players I'm, fine with as long as they want it.

A points increase would be nice in terms of what you can bring (would certainly let me field the Marine army I want), but the downside would probably be an increase in the length of games.

I've played two 2000 point games and I don't think they're that much longer tbh. We even did a 3000 point game and that didn't seem much longer.

I'm open to the idea of switching to 6th edition with no flyers if people want that!

You should ban Necrons and Grey Knights for the next one as being ridiculously overpowered at the end of 5th :p

I don't think an increase to 2000 points would be a good idea, it brings in an increase in playing times which could make games difficult to fit into an evening for some, although I'm not sure how long the 1500 games are taking.

Grey Knights are insanely overpowered (glad no-one took them!) but I haven't seen much talk of necrons being overpowered really, certainly in 6th with their flyers though.

I think a game is taking us about 3 hours at the moment, maybe we could have some table layouts saved in advance to cut down on that?

How would that work? Would that restrict anything that has been updated to the Flyer type, or could people use the things that were Skimmer type vehicles under 5th (e.g. my beautiful Razorwing? :p).

With regards to the move to 2000, I suppose you could be right. I guess the other thing to take in to account is that most of us would be more comfortable with the rules by this point, having played six games, so getting through them wouldn't take as long for those who played the first season.

I'd be all for pre-created layouts. Hasn't someone already uploaded a couple to the Dropbox folder?

Whilst I like the idea of 2k for more army optimisation personally I would be against it as the 1.5k games are taking a fair while (ok learning rules will help) and I am tight on time as it is and 2k games might be a little too far.

How about 1750? Think about how a game plays out, 2000 is an extra 2/3 units. Moving and firing an extra couple of units doesn't take much longer, really it's the looking up rules and setting up the game that's taking the time I think.

And yes JHeaton no units that are Flyer type. I don't think it would massively impact any army list but I think having them would make for a lot of games that just aren't fun.

Clarty uploaded a few, I keep meaning to sit down and look at Vassal and try and create some but just haven't had time. (at the moment it seems like half my time is writing battle reports and the other half is shooting komodo dragons on Far Cry 3 :p)

Each game I have played so far has taken around 2 1/2 to 3 hours to complete and about 80% of that time is either myself or the person I am against looking at charts or checking rules to make sure things are right.

Once the rules are down and people get more comfortable I think we can get the games down to around an hour to an hour and a half easily.

As for the Army twice in a row :( :( :( If that does happen I'll just take Chaos Demons with CSM allies... then in 3rd season CSM with Chaos Demon Allies ;)

We'll see how it looks towards the end of this league and decide from there. Once you start memorising your units BS, WS, Strength and Toughness, combat and the like becomes, much, much quicker.

I'm also not a fan of allies, it seems like it would lead to a lot of really cheap army lists and it's rarely fluffy (don't even get me started on Necrons and Blood Angels allied) Perhaps in large point games but anything under 3000 and it just seems silly.

I think the main problem is it only makes sense for a few armies, and for the rest they've just jammed it in whether it makes sense or not just to be equal.

Well, I think I'd feel it was a bit of a harsh restriction, but I'm really interested in trying something different so it's almost guaranteed that I won't play DE again anyways. :p

With regards to the rules, I found that having those summary sheets that someone posted earlier in the thread laid out on my desk meant I was referring back to the rulebook a lot less. :)

You could always try to get away with saying that 6th Ed. CSM is a different army to 4th Ed. CSM. Dunno whether or not that would fly though... :p
