Tabletop Warhammer?

That sounds cool Spuj (I've browsed a few of those threads!) Will look forward to seeing the result.

Another night working on the Battlescribe Salamanders Catalogue, starting to get the hang of it. The Fire Drakes were a ******* ***** to get right, everything else is much easier!

Yeah, even if everyone approves the codex I'd really like to have at least one friendly with it to see if any squads/rules feel out of balance on the table!

Never before has an army had to reach for the flamer template so much :D

Note to self: don't play Tyranids... :p

I had a quick look and some of the stuff is interesting. Need more time to read it in-depth though, but someone seems keen on not giving me much time to do anything. :(

Edit: Sad times, MiniWarGaming are closing their store following the latest GW policies for North America. :/

Minor update time. Got a lighter shade of green I'll be dry brushing over all the armour to give it more texture a bit of brightness. Then an even lighter shade for highlighting. Got a brown which I plan on dry brushing on to all the moving parts/exhausts that are silver.

Sheesh watching the video about the MWG store closing down really sounds like GW are trying to force out other retailers. For instance in 2003 they introduced a policy for no online sales in the US besides themselves.....christ how did they get away with that.

Apparently they tried to do this in the Europe but there are laws preventing it so they are just making it harder for other retailers to get the products (Hence Mythreal and Total Wargamer taking a while)

Yea I just read the same thing. Really shocking business decision imo. It seems like they are completely anti the internet as a means to spread the business and just want to protect their current revenue stream and IP no matter the cost.

I can't see such practice killing the hobby outside Europe but it's certainly going to dent it and make people feel sour. I was actually reassured that an EU policy had prevented such anti competitive behaviour, yay for the EU for a change!

MWG seems to be an excellent resource, far better than anything GW put out themselves and yet they are prohibitively penalised for what, being better?! Although they are continuing with the vault, I can't see it lasting unfortunately, I just can't believe enough people will be happy to pay for videos by themselves.

I watched the video where the guy from MWG explained why, GW need a change in leadership, they need to become more open, stop buying expensive exclusive license deals (LOTR/The Hobbit) and when they changes to cheaper materials (e.g. metal to resin fine cast) they need to pass these onto the users.

Earlier in this thread Shami said that GW had two choices for business model
1. Low cost - Large player base
2. High Cost - Small player base

And oddly as Shami pointed out they went for option #2, It boggles me as to why! If this hobby was cheaper (say half current prices) so much more would be purchased the profit margin on a box of space marines must be huge atm, and even at half price I should imagine it would be quite considerable.

It does feel like we as consumers are paying for their expensive license deals for games that people play for a while but then ... nothing. Last time I went into my GW I remember seeing lots of Hobbit stuff but little or no LOTR stuff.

p.s. If they fired matt ward today, sales would increase. no one likes matt ward not even matt ward.

I think the Hobbit miniatures are all pretty poor tbh as well. I'm a massive Hobbit/LOTR fan and I've not seen a single miniature that made me want to paint it. If they can't sell to me? Then the line has failed.

I agree, I am a fan or Hobbit/LOTR and I had the same reaction (Although I do like the Balrog model from LOTR, still want that). The line has failed, and in 2 years time no one will be playing it. I never see anyone playing those games when I go into Gloucester GW store.

Further update from Mythreal.

"We are having some supply delays with Games Workshop stock - if you need these orders urgently, and can't wait, I can cancel them and refund you. However, we are getting more stock next week, so if you can wait until then, we can get them out to you.

Let us know what you would prefer."

I've cancelled my order, will probably re-order the items from Dark Sphere.

Just went on the Dark Sphere website, would appear to of been designed in 1999 :P

I can understand why GW are doing what they are doing as it appeases their shareholders in the short term. As a long term business strategy I am less convinced it is viable.

Hmm, tempted to get a couple of figures to paint..., used to have a fair few when I was a kid.

Do you guys use the GW paint?, or something different? - for painting I quite like the assassin models (space marine ones) or Dark Angels, any suggests on a few good models to get back into it all?.
