Tabletop Warhammer?

Well you could say the same about the Black Legion. It will have lots of Tyranid stories and tales about how much better Ultramarines are. Then some rules for Tyrannic veterans and probably another 8 special characters.

I have read that too, this is where the first supplement is Ultramarines :P

@JHeaton: don't the SoB have a fortress monastry thing on the moon? would you really want to imprison matt ward there? he may end up rolling around in there blood .... if he does not get burnt to a crisp first :P

If there is an Ultramarines supplement I will actually have to imprison Ward on the moon for the good of the wargaming community. Codex: Space Marines should be a perfect representation of the Codex Astartes and any supplements should be for playing Chapters which deviate significantly from the organisational structure and tactics laid out within Guilliman's work! >.<

If they got Nick Kyme to write the fluff for the ultras supplement id be all over it as I love Fall of Damnos.

Hi guys.

After 12 years out of the hobby (I used to collect 3rd edition 40k) I'm going to be getting back into collecting.

I've narrowed it down to:

Eldar
Necrons
Tau

The one I like the look of most out the 3 are necrons, but I think I might get bore painting (and I'm a pretty picky painter!)

Can anyone quickly summarise the pros and cons of each of those three? It'd be really helpful :)

Eldar

Pros - You're just better than everyone else, I don't mean more powerful, I mean you're just better. Codex is nicely balanced and there are a number of effective options in each slot. Also the most manoeuvrable army by far and powerful firepower. In my quite biased opinion they are very fun to play.

Cons - Not as weak as Dark Eldar but you still can't stand up to a head on firefight. Model wise they still need a lot of new models, some really, really old stuff still in there (like older than most of the fans)

Necrons

Pros - Codex is ridiculously overpowered, a lot of armies struggle to deal with Cron Air and the AV13 spam. Easy and quick to paint.

Cons - People will hate you if you play them, also Matt Ward fluff. Codex is powerful but there are a few obvious options so there isn't much variety.

Tau

Pros - Nicely balanced codex, very easy to pick a list that can take on anything. A lot of nice models.

Cons - I find they aren't fun to play, for you or your opponent (too much emphasis on being a hard counter to the enemy makes games quite slow imo).

I think the moon base was the sisters of silence!

Thanks for that.

I remember when they first introduced Necrons and back then they were pretty balanced. Matt ward? Bad background writing I'm guessing? They have so many special characters now!

Seems like a Eldar might be the one for me. Being fun to play is important. I'm a HH fan so I love their background.

Necrons allied with Blood Angels in Ward's fluff. Also the C'tan are now basically Pokemon.

Hughes have you use old Necromunda models for your cultists?

nope just DV, although I did look at some of the necromunda models and some of them would make good replacements for the champions.

I think the moon base was the sisters of silence!

still, matt ward and a load of devout females ... recipe for matt ward style snuff fluff.

The rumors keep coming, no 2013 Blood Bowl instead a new GW skirmish game, which sounds cool and I like the idea of basing characters on the art of John Blanche but seems to be yet another rumor with an anonymous yet "reliable" source.

I've posted new stuff in the Vassal Season 2 thread, go and check it out if you're involved and haven't checked it recently (as I've been slow doing stuff for it)

I asked a while back for which legion to paint my DV Chaos, so here's my take on a Red Corsairs chosen. It's WIP really, but what do you think?

Not sure why the flash makes the tabard looks blue, it's stone coloured IRL..

Thinking about picking up the dark angels veterns box this weekend to make a librarian. Obviously its more expensive than buying just the sprue but the combat squad inside he box will also come in handy since I need 1 for the librarian. Anyway had a look online and I cant find it cheaper since thats all I need at the minute unless anyone knows of somewhere with free shipping?

Looking good, the gold is a bit patchy and the red looks a little thick in places, are you watering down your paints?

Thanks, I might have to touch up the gold a bit. Seeing it at that size does highlight some minor issues that aren't so noticeable at the real model size though!

I'm not watering down my paints, should I be? Does it matter if it's a base or a layer paint as to how much I should water it down by?

I wouldn't water down base paints (by that I mean the base range from Citadel) or Metallics generally but everything else should be milk consistency.

Really? I would advise the other way and water down base paints too! like all citadel paints they are quite thick.

watering down metallics can be troublesome but you can get a much nicer finish, I find metallic paints to be especially gloopy at times and leave an uneven finish.
