Tabletop Warhammer?

Got the main colours laid down for my grimdark attempt. Just need to do a bit of highlighting and battle damage before I open up the streaking grime!!

Here you go guys my first attempt at painting Warhammer minis, hope you like them.

First attempt? Nahhh

The new Necrons combat patrol looks like terrible value for money.

Old one:
5 Immortals = £27.50
5 Deathmarks = £27.50
Overlord = £19
3 Tomb Blades = £35
1 Doom Scythe = £42.50

£151.50 total


New Box:
1 Doomstalker = £30
Overlord = £19
10 warriors and 3 scarab swams = £30
3 Skorpekh Destroyers £37.50

£116.50 total.


If theyre going to price it at £95 still, wont even be worth picking up as ill end up with a duplicate overlord.

Yes it most certainly is my first attempt at minis, I have been watching a lot of painting videos on Youtube plus I normally print and paint 10th scale resin figures and busts.

I think because your post was ambiguous it could be interpreted as your first attempt at mini painting period, not specifically Warhammer

Slightly off topic but I had just finished painting the Link figure earlier this summer that's in the photos (which was 32 individually printed resin parts) I had run out of some paint & I popped into my local Warhammer store & noticed an Age Of Sigmar Extremis starter set which was on display & fell in love with the scenery for it.

So I thought why not and a few weeks later bought the Extremis starter edition, I have well and truly gone down the rabbit hole now with the Warhammer stuff (Slaves to Darkness minis sitting here as well now) Gut Rippers and Eternals are next in line for painting.

Wil get a photo uploaded shortly - but getting really frustrated with edge highlighting. Im starting to think that taking photos is a bad idea - I cant help but zoom in massively and spot tiny imperfections. Does anyone else suffer with this stupidly obsessive need to make it perfect?

I certainly do sadly, spent all morning trying to get the right leather base colour for 10 Gut Rippers, finally settled on Garaghak's Sewer lol

Decided to clear out some of my Death Guard stuff, I didn't enjoy playing as them because I find the whole 9" contagoin radious thing just tedious. Luckily I haven't opened some so I should be able to sell them as I price them over 10% less than Wayland Games.
Not sure what I'll do with the ones I assembled, I'll keep some Plague Marines as I could use with Chaos, but I have a primed Typhus, a load of Pox Walkers etc, might just put on for next to nothing as feels very wasteful binning them.

If you list them cheap someone let me know, I enjoy painting more than playing but don't need any more plastic as i've got 1.5k of Orks primed and ready to paint and am about to buy some Crimson Fists as well

Most of it is sold, I basically took WAyland games price, deducted another 10% off then rounded down to nearest 5.

Knowing how money-grabby GW are, do you think they will launch primaris chaos at some point? Also I noticed on the data cards that chaos terms cannot have the cyclone launchers, maybe not a big loss in terms of effectiveness but I kind of wanted that.

Wait until the Codex comes out. Wouldn't surprise me if missing options turn up again later, as the customisation was massively dialed down in the Indexs this edition as far as I could see. Barely any real options except on characters.

Wouldn't surprise me if they launch Chaos Primaris, but I suspect they'll brand it under Chaos Newmen (Fabius Bile) or similar; there isn't really much of a story purpose to it, the Chaos Marines already have the gifts of Chaos/boons of Chaos etc which functionally give them the same level of upgrades as the Primaris anyhow.

The money-grubbiness can really be felt in the recent Combat Patrol revisions though; they are SO empty in comparison to before.

I really like the assassins on paper so may get the others at some point.
Once I've finished some of the above I'll get more termies which will be done in dark kracken scheme.

I'm now waiting for the upcoming rumoured Deathwing box set, as sounds like that'll have a couple of characters, some refreshed Deathwing Knights, and some extra terminators, which should take me right to around 3000 points. If he's not in there, I'll probably pickup the new Terminator Chaplain also. MAYBE Asmodai although I'm not 100% on the new model yet.

The general vibe I'm going for is a heavy task force under the Lion, so a bit more specialist, a bit more heavily equipped. Cypher in there in the hopes they'll give him back the option to drop into an Imperial army (as he had in previous editions), with the good humoured headcannon being he is there to assist the Lion. Him and the Lion are both 100% aware he's there and who he is, but to everyone else he's just Captain Kyp; he has snuck in under the noses of everyone else, and is doing his best to avoid annoying the Lion so he doesn't out him in front of Azrael and the others

I did look multiple times at the Dark Angels Combat Patrol in the past (love me some Dreadnoughts etc), but couldn't quite bring myself to buy it as it felt like it was squandering value on upgrade packs when I'd rather have had more marines in it, just felt poor in terms of value compared to some of the others, although it's looking good compared to some of the new ones!!

Aye there will be some fabulous Bill book related to it, and off they will launch, and maybe split into 2, warp infused and fabulous bill built, they did the 8 to 8 the exhaulted for Khorne, might do similar for the other breeds of chaos.

If anyone is dumping or selling books, please do let me know ahead of time, and if it is something I don't have then I will likely buy it from you.
plan is to build a full black library over time, and then use eventual retirement funds to house it in a proper library.
Only the solitaires and human illuminati will be given the address, etc etc
