Tabletop Warhammer?

My understanding with so many companies releasing new paint lines, is that MonumentHobbies brought out their pro acryl line that was a good few notches "better" than most of the others. And that started a bit of an arms race :D At my level the two major difference I notice on different ones I've tried is constancy and drying time. I have Baneblade brown from the current GW range and it's really thick and seems to always dry fast.

Have been testing out and trying to pick a colour scheme to paint up my Battletech mechs. Using Destiny2 to pick some which has been great for patterns and lighting but actually painting the schemes is a different matter.

Almost got a squad of infiltrators repainted. Probably not enough midtone but they got plenty of contrast :D

Will hopefully attempt my new base scheme after work.

Speaking of... TTC works in triads right, so say I decide to paint fists, am I supposed to base the whole thing in the middle colour and add shadows where applicable or am I supposed to base in the darkest colour and then work up?

Not sure if you guys saw this:

I don't need any of this, but I have to say, if I see it, I'd 99.9% pick up that rumoured introductory offer, just to have a second Terminator Captain and Winged Prime for 2.99 hahah would give me the opportunity to custom/cut up that terminator captain without feeling bad about it.

The subscriber and premium subscriber packs are also looking nice.

I am tempted to pick it up, divy up the needed stuff between me, wife, neighbour and brother, and rest goes on the famous auction place lol

Might also be a nice way to get a few more Von Ryan Leapers for people with them!

Mighty tempting to sub to this.

I have massive faction magpie tendencies and this is right up my street

I'll sub to that for sure just to collect. I'll decide what to do with it much later lol.

Good you have a choice. There are a few factions I have no interest in at all.

If you can sub just for certain factions it'd be tempting - looks like the first part of the run is essentially the Leviathan box and I'm not all that interested in having it twice :p

On a similar note, interesting to see Warhammer The Old World isn't being launched with a single dual army box - instead launching with a Bretonnia box and a Tomb Kings box, each of which has the rules included - they seem to have recognised a lot of people were buying boxes like Leviathan and immediately selling on half that they didn't want.

I know NADA about fantasy other than a few factions. Is Old World just a release of the game they killed off to launch AoS?
Kind of - it's the same setting as Warhammer Fantasy was but earlier in the timeline, some old factions will be rereleased with new models but not all (but rules available for all old 8th Ed factions) and the ruleset is new, though I understand to be much more similar to what WF was than AoS or 40k as it's massed battles rather than skirmish style.

In a lot of ways it could probably be fairly viewed as a 'reboot' more so than a rerelease or new edition of WF.

Sort of, yes. I think HH was aimed at releasing a game more similar to an older 40k ruleset? I'm not sure how different the rules of TOW will be to WF.

Not sure on TTC but an example from GW would be Fang-Russ Grey-Fenrisian your mid tone should cover the biggest area Russ Grey

Depends on the tools and technique.

By brush it would be glazing, wet blending or stapling.

Glazing - mid tone (main colour) then Glaze down the shadows and up for the highlights.

Stapling - darkest seems to be the go to route then start to build up colour.

Wet blending wouldn't really be suitable for marines armour.

Box art (Eavy metal) Would be mid tone mostly and a load of glazing then followed by a load of edge highlighting.

Most of the above isn't really army friendly and why most would go for Mid tone and various stages of edge highlighting. Bit of glazing on special HQ models etc.

For Fists i think most just go down the contrast route with various pre-shading or zenithal highlights because it's a nightmare.

the amount of work you have to do for the Eavy metal style Imperial fist is mental.

<snip>

Thanks for that, I'm wondering if an easy way to get some shading on an IF would simply be to add a light pink glaze on the various parts before you slap on the glorious If contrast. Might just try paint one 'manually' for the heck of it. Just remembered I purchased the TTC Yellow Glaze too :) I think that is FAR too much work though for regular marines, I do have a Tor Gadon? in me drawer who I think would be a good practice model, especially as it's unlikely I'll be playing as fists.

Edit: Actually, I have some heavy intercessors simply sprayed in Salamander Green (Colour Forge), I could practice something on those too.

I think 'Wolf Grey' is an equivalent, edit: Yeah from dark to light those are equivalent to: The Fang, Russ Grey, Fenrisian Grey.

Allyexpress came good hah new hobby tools. Ordered the wrong size sanding pads tho!! Should have got the 5mm one and ordered 10mm!! The nippers are super sharp!! Wonder how long they will last.

Will be using my normal nippers to clip the part off the sprue then go in for the close cut with Dspaie nippers then sand if required.

Think the nippers where 17quid they are 43 on Amazon!

@Noxia there’s nothing stoping you trying glazing out on models already painted. You don’t even need to have the triad. Just darken down the main colour then thin paint and hit the areas you think shadow would fall.

You can do the same for the highlights and if you think you gone to far you can glaze with the main colour to smooth out the transitions.

It’s best to over thin and need more coats than have the paint too thick. The triad systems are just painter friendly to help you get paints that’s the same colour hue. I wouldn’t have a chance picking the same hue being colour blind. (If you don’t want to mix paint)

The terminology is more intimidating than the actual techniques.

Nice wee video explaining layers and glazing. Only really difference between layers and glazing is the thickness of the paint.

Well got legions imperialaris for crimbo and a box of baneblades.

Details are amazing! Pricy stuff for sure even by gw standards but they knocked the kits out of the park.
