Tabletop Warhammer?

Wanted to put a bit more effort into the Volkus terrain than I do with my printed stuff. So much detail on GW terrain it's hard to find the line. I feel like you could keep going on this stuff forever.

Happy with this though, going to finish the rest the same way.

Looks great!

All I did with my Volkus Terrain was primed it black, then drybrushed the hell out of it with 3 different shades of grey, then a white drybrush highlight, then used contrast paint to pick out some of the details like the doors, windows floors & some of the pipework.

Then repeated the colour scheme on all of the scatter terrain plus the equipment packs.

I do know what you mean about where to stop painting it though, there is a opinion that the terrain should just be a backdrop so that all focus is on the models ;)

I will upload some photos tomorrow of it all.

So the Brutal or Cunning add on pack is up for pre-order on the 7th December, the extra terrain in it fits in with the Volkus stuff :)

My 3d printed 40K terrain is the same, spray black then grey, run a bit of a brown fade around the bottom of everything and dry brush everything with a sort of tan colour. Looks good on the table.

I just couldn’t do it with this though it felt like a bit of a waste plus I need a palette cleanser to get me back on the horse, it’s been kind of fun but painting the windows is absolutely painful.

Also I wanted a lighter colour and also to have some actual colour in there hence the brown/red tints and stuff on the base colour.

Been looking at my pile of models lately and honestly it’s shocking I’ve got way too much. I think I will have to take stock properly and put a fair bit up for sale. I’ve no issue with keeping hold of stuff if I know I’ll get to it (or plan to) but there’s just too much and I know I won’t ever touch probably 20% of it. I buy stuff with good intentions but I conveniently forget how long this stuff takes me to do.

Here you go as mentioned yesterday, first time I have put it all on the table, just need to finish another faction, then I am ready to go.

Only one green square on the photo this time, still cant figure out what's causing it.

Finally finished my Grey Knights Nemesis Dreadknight, making the entire Grey Knights combat patrol box done.

I had to grind it out to finish it, it could be a lot better, but am happy the whole set is now finished to a consistent standard that looks good in the display case. I will likely add some more shading to the head a bit at some stage as it's easily removed. I magnetised the Dreadknight head, shoulder pipes and melee weapons so can I change out all configurations, including the much derided baby carrier head loadout, but I actually think the bare head suits the model, even though the helmet version is better overall and how I'll likely display it most. The ranged weapons actually clip on and off the arms with no magnetising required, though I did magnetise the cannon and chain gun barrels so they can be switched out. I can make most of the possible loadouts for the Nemesis Dreadknight, even though my having a flamethrower and hammer on the same arm isn't technically allowed, I can take them off at any time if I decide to game with it.

Made a decision not to add any decals to the left leg as per the box art examples, as I can't guarantee their perfect placement, I actually like the clean and simple red stripe on white instead, sometimes decals can look too sharp and detailed, any likely offset angle or placement was only going to annoy me, so I really appreciated not having to use any decals at all on the whole combat patrol set. They don't provide any in the box anyway, so I'm happy I left them off this model too.

The sword loadout is too tall to fit vertically in my case, so didn't spend much time on it, even the hammer loadout only allows about 2mm clearance from top of case. The whole patrol fits snugly in the same case type as the 20 marine display I did, I'll take pics of the final patrol in the display case for another post.

Only models I have left to paint now are the Elite Edition starter set from 2 years back with the Marine bikers and Necrons, and three McFarlane large scales, consisting of two Marines and a Chaos Marine.

Almost certainly won't paint anything until next year now and not buy anything until all of those are done too. Would really like to paint some orcs next, but should really clear backlog first.

Very glad to be done with it for the year, happy painting all.

I’ve been very naughty. Very very naughty. I’ve finished work for Christmas and let’s just say I gota make it to the postman before she does over the next couple of days!!

I finish on Thursday. I have this plan in my head of all the stuff I'm going to finish but I know obviously it is very likely I'll not actually do any lol.

I had planned on getting Slaves to Darkness started but I’ve been busy getting our bedroom redecorated!! Almost done but then it might take me two days clearing my hobby room!!! Can’t even see the floor or table top

Currently working on those 7 plague marines from the Kill Team starter set, omg all that copper/rusty trim on them.

Will post some photos when they are done, looking good so far :)

Also ordered a pot of gore and snot (Dirty Down) from Element games today, looking forward to trying that stuff out, the Kill Team Brutal and Cunning add on should be here next Saturday too.

Cheers All

Yeah I might have a slight problem with collecting paint. Think I’m 100% sold on the line (I hope lol). Easy to match the GW line to follow guides and what took me by surprise was how nice they thin and go through the airbrush.

Biggest complaint is how rigid the bottles are but that's it. I feel like when some of them get lower I'm going to need pliers to squeeze the paint out

The new Vallejo bottles are brilliant and Pro Acryl are good. I don’t mind the caps. Every other brand I have all seem to have leakage issues which peaves me off.

There was an issue with the wave one paints where some were overfilled and there was paint in the caps which is why when I try and remove some of them the nozzle comes out with it. I just haven't bothered to sort of them. There was only about three like that.

I have a couple of Vallejo ones and yes they are very squidgy plastic which makes getting the paint out much easier. Pro acryl is my least favourite nozzle wise.

Back to winning ways :D

1000 pts game, Necrons vs Blood angels.

And what an absolute massacre, the Starshatter detachment is absolutely disgusting. Took out half his army on turn 1 through getting in range for rapid fire on the heavy destroyers. Szarek just sat there as a giant bullet sponge with a technomancer sat behind reducing the damage he takes and then healing him up.

Also signed upto my first tournament in February :D

I'm playing KT soon as well. Not many people are playing 40k anymore*, pretty much for the reason above, a good game shouldn't be over before your opponent even gets a turn.
See a few people paying older editions though.
