Tabletop Warhammer?

600 point limit Eldar

Autarch with Wings, Fusion Gun, Power Axe & Banshee Mask = 115 pts

Windrider jetbikes *4 with Shuriken Cannon = 78 pts

Guardians *11 with Bright Lance = 119 pts

Swooping Hawks*6 = 96 pts

Crimson Hunter with Exarch and Marksman's Eye 190 pts

What do you think? I don't own any models yet but I've been wanting to play Eldar for years.

There is some uncertainty as to whether an Autarch with wings can actually skyleap with the Hawks.

I would try and get Warp Spiders in somewhere, their mobility is ridiculous (6+2D6 in movement, D6 and shoot then 2D6 in assault phase!) and at that point level they can attack nearly any type of enemy

I could swap the hawks for spiders, but I thought hawks might be better against hordes, with the grenade pack and multitude of shots.

That said, I guess the spiders would be better against MEQ/TEQ.

The autarch could go on a bike, have a warp jump generator or wings pretty much interchangeably. I might actually put him on a bike with the guardian bikes, then just pelt him up the field to melta down a tank, instead of trying to DS him.

I feel it's very odd they're all priced the same considering what you get:

Bike - +1 Toughness, excellent mobility
Jump generator - good mobility, could die from warp jump
Wings - ...

If he can't skyleap then I don't see any reason to go for wings, it's not even as mobile as the other two.

I thought that was odd too. Toughness upgrades tend to be expensive usually, but apparently not in Eldar land.

Do you find the jump generator ends up killing spiders very often? I wouldn't want to lose my Autarch to it...

I haven't used them enough to comment yet really. Remember the generator is optional, you can always just do 6" move, then D6 run and shoot then 2D6 jump (without chance of death)

If you did get a double then one model at random would be killed, so in a max squad you're looking at a 1/11 chance after you've got the double. It's more likely your Warlock will peril and die (or worse your Shadowseer will peril and leave your expensive Harlequin squad useless)

Ah, the assault move of jetpack units isn't affected by the jump generator special rules? I had assumed otherwise, but looking at the rules again it makes sense.

One more question about spiders, while we're on the topic...
Death spinners have monofilament, which means +1 strength if the target has <4 Init or no value.. does that mean vehicles have no value, so they're strength 7 vs vehicles? (except walkers, ofc)

Certainly does :)

So they can kill anything short of a Land Raider/Monolith? Sweet!

I wanted hawks for was pie plates, lazers and haywire, but I can probably do without all that for most matchups.

Oh, what did you think of the Crimson Hunter? Overkill for 600 points? Seems pretty nice for AA and AT, and failing that anti-TEQ.

The pie plates are good but their guns are still a bit...meh. Strength 3 means they'll be wounding on fives against a lot of things.

Lets assume a ten man squad shoots at a squad of Long Fangs

30 shots
20 hit
6.66 wound
2.22 after saves.

They're good against lightly armored stuff...but then so are a lot of things in the Eldar codex.

They did get a nice subtle buff from Battle Focus though, they can deepstrike with no scatter, then shoot and run to disperse and avoid templates!

I can see their uses, I'm going to try a ten man squad with no upgrades in my next battle and see how they do.

At 600pts the Crimson Hunter is a bit much, in my opinion. You're unlikely to see AV14 or even much AV13 at those levels, so the extra shots from a unit of War Walkers, for example, might be more useful.

I am new to Warhammer and recently bought the chaos army bits from 2 Dark Vengeance boxes that my boss was selling. Can anyone please help me with an optimum army with this setup for say 1000 and for 1500 points? I'm getting so confused whilst reading the codex :(

Sure, I don't expect to see any Land Raider or equivalents, but you can fit a pred in there easy enough. The thing I like though is that it's pretty good at killing anything with armour. Also hopefully not bad at popping characters due to 5+ precision shot.
4 S8 AP2 shots at BS5 is pretty nice.

I agree the war walkers might be a more appropriate choice at the points level, but I think the flier looks a lot cooler, and a flier might be more survivable at this level.

Cheeky question, does anyone have a link to a couple of pages of the new Eldar book for my to browse before I decide if I am going to get back into the game?

^ Nice. :D

My Rangers arrived today. After inspecting the first three, I was feeling pretty good about them, and then the issues came up. One of them has a bent gun. Not the end of the world, but mildly annoying. The other one has two big bubbles on the gun's magazine. Can't decide whether to send them back or just deal with it and fill the gaps... :o

Do it! :p

I shouldn't say things like that, otherwise someone will convince me to take up my friend's challenge to build and paint a full army in one weekend. :o
