tablets to replace PCs?

True. But I mean since they are limited performance wise they won't be able to do heavy work etc and there for can't "hold a candle" to desktops/laptops and will generally be for casual users more than anything.

What heavy work though? The vast majority of the population don't do heavy work. Most people in their jobs don't even do havy computional work.
And you can get i5 with decent gfx card tablets anyway (or will do in a few months)

Do you think? I'm not sure what your logic is here?

I suppose the logic is, and bare with me on this.

desktops are being replaced (slowly) by laptops. so what will happen is some of the people that would have bought a laptop will buy a tablet, but those that don't buy a tablet will still buy a laptop and not a desktop. so the desktop will decrease in sales from both sides, whereas the laptops will only decrease in sales from tablets, not tablets and desktops.

well that's my thinking of the logic.

I don't think most people will think like that. I think people will either buy a desktop or they will buy a tablet instead of a laptop. When windows 8 comes out with the surface tablets which have a keyboard option there will be no reason to choose a laptop over a tablet

Most don't but then tablets can't do a lot of things that laptops/desktops can do and therefore won't replace them. Plus not everyone likes having to TOUCH to make something happen....

no I am with you on this, but I think that is the logic that was used to come to that conclusion.

I personally believe, and have stated several times that I believe most households will have a main computer and then individuals with have their own portable devices.

A lot of households don't have a desktop allready. There's plenty of households only running laptops.

Like what?
I think you'll find a win8 tablet can do everything.

I said a main computer not a desktop ;) it may be a laptop, but I don't think it will be used portably, it will probably sit at home and be used as a central household device.

Why do you think that? The households I know that have laptop as a main computer, use it out as well. That's the hole point, you don't have money sat around not being used.

Play BF3? Play WoW? Play Skyrim? With out the addition of a mouse/keyboard. Able to use programs for coding? Video encode? etc etc

Yep they can do that, why are you hung up on an addition keyboard and mouse.

If your going to stay that how do you use games on a desktop with pout an additional mouse and keyboard, which can cost just a few £

Because a desktop/laptop to me includes a mouse and keyboard. A tablet which main input is a touch screen does not require a mouse/keyboard to run normally. There for will need externals added to it to be able to do those functions. Also 3 screen support with SLI/Xfire and overclocking capabilities fora tablet? unlikely.

As I said stupid argument, all periphals are periphals. Why does it make any difference?
Other than because your trying to back track on a point that you know is wrong.

They might have a 'home location' where they plug it into a printer, etc... but I imagine most use laptops around the house, at least.

I know lots of people that own a laptop over a desktop so they can put it in a drawer when its not in use to save room. they have never once taken out of the house unless it has been to get fixed.

Peripherals maybe peripherals but can you use your desktop with out a keyboard/mouse? No. Can you use a tablet with out a keyboard/mouse. Yes. So a tablet NEEDS them to be able to run bf3/wow/skyrim. Whats the use of that for something that is meant to be more mobile than a laptop? But when it comes to gaming it becomes less mobile? Usefull.
