Taiwan and China thread.

China won’t do crap. They know they are massively outmatched. Have they not seen what happened when the US military was awoken during WW2. The US navy would obliterate the Chinese navy and then could just starve the whole country. The US is battle tested and is unmatched in logistics, China has little experience other than getting walked over historically time and time again. One day maybe, but not now.

Here is a link to China congratulating themselves for sending ‘a whopping 6’ Y-20s to Serbia a few months back. With quotes such as ‘A whopping six Y-20 large transport aircraft could mark an unprecedented overseas operation’ and ‘It is more difficult to organize a large fleet featuring six Y-20s compared with only one or two of the aircraft, Song Zhongping, a Chinese military expert’.

Yeah genuinely not sure they’re ready for what the US is capable of quite yet to be honest.

American politicians should be banned from ever leaving their own country. Or speaking to the press or ..well pretty much anything else.

What is the actual point of Nancy Pelossi ??
The point of Nancy Pelosi is to use her inside knowledge of upcoming regulations on massive tech firms so that her husband can make millions on the stock market

You see no value in her act of defiance here?

Say whatever you want about her being as establishment as they come, but I think this visit was pretty cool.

Just an example of American imperialism nothing less nothing more.

Hardly anything cool about it. If anyone really believes that bs about democracy....

This is a game for resources with the big powers trying to flex there muscles.

Of course, if it does all kick off, she won't be the one getting shot at, so I'm not sure how cool it is really...

Precisely. The visit was signed sealed and scheduled the moment China made it an issue of contention. Was never about Taiwan after that, only that the US wouldn't bend the knee. No one gives a **** for the people on the ground in all of this and they may well have to pay for her visit in blood.

It's boring and predictable of the US. They have the clout to bring everyone to the table but do nothing of the sort.

China is blowing this up to levels because Emperor Xi needs to distract his people from the housing crisis going on And other disastrous issues with Chinas economy, the US has been silly enough to hand him it on a plate. Classic spinning of nationalism by finding an enemy for your people to get mad at.

Good on them. I’d rather have an imperialistic and dominant US versus China/Russia.
Yep, I'd say its in our interest that the "One China" goal is delayed for as long as possible. Not only so the 23+million people living in Taiwan can go about their lives freely but to delay whatever is the next step in China's long term plan which will likely lead to further expansion.

Semiconductor and other chip manufacturing.

Its more than just about communist bad.

More that:
* china has loaded to resource rich countries, essentially enslaving the economy to debt.
* indebted countries have to offer resource control or port control to offset lending.
* china control resources for semiconductor production but don’t have the skills
* china cyber actors have stolen tech docs (Nvidia for example) but catching up takes time.
* tiawan holds premium technology production and skillsets. For china this solves their gap of skills, production and reduces US’s hold on the market.

Sadly this whole China/Taiwan situation is another example of the West dereliction of duty after WW2 and walking off without helping the allies it had supported during the war.

During WW2 China was more nationalist and when Japan attacked it in WW2, the West - mainly the US, supplied arms to it to defend against the Japanese invasion.

Japan eventually lost the invasion of China, after killing many Chinese nationalists, so they pulled back. The communist Chinese saw their opportunity after WW2 and attacked the nationalists killing many of them, while the remaining survivors retreated to what is now Taiwan.

The communist leader at the time, Mao Zedong, even thanked the Japanese for their invasion.

The West has a history of leaving the scene before peace as fully settled. It's a similar situation with Ukraine and Russia.

The lesson to learn is for the West not to keep exiting the scene early. Because any problems will come back and bite us.

On a less serious note, AMD in particular and Nvidia will be very seriously hurt by this if it happens. I really hope it does not and am praying the Chinese have more sense than the Russians.

The world has become very unstable with aggression running rampant, it's sad to see that we humans have learned nothing and we are as far away from the Star Trek ideal as ever.

There was plenty that the west walked away from post WW2 that wasn’t in our interest, but then I guess many countries were war weary in the years that followed, certainly for any large scale operations. Hence leaving Russia alone, they were never our friends, just a necessary ally for them and us.

Nor was it a particularly smart plan to remain in a war economy for any longer than required.

If only we could just transplant Taiwan somewhere away from China :(. I feel like at some point in the future China will go for them no matter what.

It would be over very quickly. Even if the Chinese Navy was useless, their dongfeng missiles would destroy Taiwan.

Relations between China and Taiwan were always wobbly but it's really come to prominence since the Hong Kong national security law was passed. It went from being something that might be an issue in decades to come, to just a few short years.

I don't think China would want to do anything just yet though, as their game plan seems much longer term. More military bases in Africa outside of Djibouti and Equatorial Guinea. Plus secret bases in Argentina to annoy the US.

Another concerning aspect is how successful Chinese companies like ByteDance and Tencent have become with western consumers. The ties these companies have with the CCP gives them huge influence over whatever narrative they want to spin.
