How does that fit with new graduates?
Studies on the gender pay gap showed that a male graduate is far more likely to ask for a higher wage than a woman in interview. Also at annual reviews, this is repeated.
Clearly companies are taking both male and female graduate on different rates of pay or the pay gneger gap studies should have shown no difference in pay which it didn’t.
So why aren’t all these companies being prosecuted?
So studies show that people are different and the choices they make affect their outcomes.
Well golly gosh what a shock!
The problem is you are looking at averages and extrapolating a form of systemic oppression when there isn't one.
Some jobs have negotiable salaries - I would suggest this is probably a good idea for more complex jobs where a one job title / salary approach isn't going to cut it.
Men, on average, are less agreeable then women and more likely to aggressively argue for higher pay in pay negotiations.
This doesn't mean men are, on average, are being paid more
because they they are men any more that a job were physical strength correlates to pay means men get paid more then women because, on average, men are stronger then women.
The 'solution' to this problem is to raise awareness in women about being more assertive if they wish to secure the best renumeration not punishing thoose that are more assertive by paying them the same as someone that can't be bothered to sell themselves.
